USNA Class of 2027 Waitlist: Team Hopeful

Is it common that you will indefinitely sit on WLA, or will they take you off the wait list if the admissions office knows they no longer need you. Restating, do candidates get taken off the wait list, or will your portal continue to show WLA, even if the admissions office knows they can’t appoint you? Thanks.
During my sons cycle, on the WL, there were a few times that people were ‘released’. By the end, there were only a couple left.

We had made a PM group. And people left as they were TWE’ed.

Happy Monday, Team Hopeful!!

I was just browsing last year's WL threat and several got their news May 19-25. Hoping for some action this week for us! It's getting to where my son needs to start focusing more on Plan B and not just going through the motions. He's done everything he NEEDED to do to secure it, but isn't proactively working that plan. I am getting emails about the different opportunities at his Plan B school and he still has to complete his paperwork for NSI (due the end of this month) and I know his focus was on AP exams the last 2 weeks and finals this week plus polo season just wrapped up and graduation on Saturday. But I know if this was USNA paperwork, it would have been done weeks ago. He's still holding out hope. I am going to take him out to Boulder in June if he hasn't heard from USNA first. He's agreed to the trip but I don't think he's excited about it. It was nice on scholarship night when NROTC presented him his giant check and the whole school ooohed and ahhhhed and he got to understand what a significant accomplishment that was and maybe that helped him see that Plan B is a pretty solid opportunity, too.

I think an underappreciated skill is waiting indefinitely. At least with regular admissions, we all KNEW it could take up to April 15th. We didn't like it and hoped it would be sooner, but we knew it might be April 15th. With the WL, it could be today or it could be never or anything in between. This is a whole new level of resilience. When the c/o 2028 waitlisters read this thread, I hope they know we get it and we agree with you that it sucks. LOL!!!

SootyHen rooting for you and DS

The BGO told my DD that she should know by today. That final decisions on whom to pull from the WL should be made by today. Past years went into June so I am not sure.

I am not sure about that; I don't think admissions tells BGOs exactly what they're doing. It's possible that admissions plans to release many decisions today, but there are always some that go down to the wire. For example, there are kids waiting on the waitlist (or on medical waivers) for one academy while having an appointment to another. If and when that waitlist spot or medical waiver comes through, they will have to decide on which academy to accept. Those who choose the one they were waiting on will open a spot at the original academy that they have already accepted an appointment to. Does that make sense? I know multiple kids in this scenario.

The only way to know for sure, is when the waitlist is completely cleared. That could be today, or it may not.

No two years are the same.
