2016 USNA Mailbox Stalkers Club...

@2016Texas Congratulations to your DS. How exciting! Tell not to underestimate freshman orientation just because its not plebe summer. It is very demanding so he needs to be in shape for it. Plus he'll need to pass the PFT in order to contract. No contract, no $ until he does. Good luck! You'll love the stories after orientation. :thumb:

usna1985- Have to question why you see what I wrote as a NEGATIVE reaction when you agree in part for whatever reason. This is merely an explanation of everything I have read. I am actually pro females and how you got a "dig" on females beats me! It was actually an "in defense" of USNA not an attack on it! Seemingly too sensitive for you, if you ask me:thumbdown:

TWE

DD received TWE today. Not too disappointed. She has appts from USAFA and USMA to choose from.

OH-13, TWE came this morning, USAFA bound now, best of luck to those still waiting

You got TWE from USNA? And an appt to USAFA? Good to know since DS got TWE today. I had to wait to say since he was at an academic meet (kicking butt I might add, 1st in Current Events and 2nd in Computer Science) and I couldn't tell him all day.

Actually the TWE from USNA made my anxiety far less, since basically I feel it's sorta the same process and now we are semi-expecting a TWE from USAFA.

TWE Time

Got a TWE today, whatever that stands for.

Long story short I was rejected from Naval (a mere 4 days after being rejected from Stanford )

Neither were first choice schools. I haven't heard from first choice yet... which happens to be USAFA. Hoping for the best, and wish yall who haven't heard the best of luck too!

TWE for me, Wednesday April 4, 2012. I am definitely very sad. I am still waiting for NROTC though, so there is still some hope for me.

Still waiting...

Nothing in the mail yesterday, but there was an article in our local neighborhood paper about another student in the district who received his apppointment at a special dinner. Different congressional district, but same BGO. I'm guessing since I didn't receive an invite to the celebration dinner, I probably didn't receive an appointment.

Not sure this is the way I would have chosen to find out. Still holding out a thin sliver of hope.

Finally

TWE. Congratulations to all who received appointments, and all those who applied. Best of luck and much continued success to all!

Good Morning to all of you still waiting. TWE received today on Long Island. Hello University of Florida NROTC with Marine option scholarship. Best of luck to all still waiting. Just want to thank of you who applied and made this journey. Also know how much respect I have for you for your courage.

God Bless the United States Marine Corps

plt1036 good luck to you!!!
As you can tell, I am an FSU graduate. You will learn to dislike us immensely.
Seriously, coming out of Long Island to attend U of F NROTC Marine option is awesome!
You will have a good time and not regret being in "hog town" during the winter.
Best of luck and GO NOLES
(get used to this:shake:)

BFE but no NROTC

My DS checked the NROTC status page today and found out he was not selected. He received an appointment to USNA end of march and has accepted . The selection process seems quite a mystery to me. He finished his applications for NROTC and USNA in Feb '12 and pretty much used the same info. His weighted GPA was 3.9 and SAT Math 640 and Reading 690 with lots of Varsity BB and leadership stuff. NROTC is more selective then USNA??? go figure.

your right - DS stats - wait listed USNA

Your right :mysterious process of selections at USNA and NROTC/Marine option. Son of active duty Marine wait listed at USNA, approved for Marine option scholarship at USC (University of Southern California). Accepted to USC 2 weeks ago, USC has 18% selection rate for Freshman. Stats: 2000 SAT for all 3 categories. 4.07 weighted GPA. Class ranking 11 of 615. High school JROTC Platoon Commander, NHS member. Scholar/athlete award 4 years in a row for wrestling team. Wrestling team Captain. Came in 2nd at high school wrestling championship CIF div 2 in February, was only 2 matches away at Masters from going to state when he lost in OT. Found out last week that DS will be awarded the honor medal with cross palms. This extremely rare valor award has been given out only 270 times since its' Boy Scout inception. He is receiving this from the boy scouts for saving 3 other teenagers last July from drowning while they were being swept out to sea from a rip tide current. He is also under review for receiving the Carnegie hero medal for the same incident. DS is an Eagle scout and is in the Order of Arrow. DS is naturally disappointed with the wait list, but truthfully is taking it better than my husband and I. We are blessed in so many other areas of our lives and are moving on with the grace of God.

Congratulations to your son on his award! Would it be beneficial to update USNA with his latest honors in hope of getting him off the wait list and into the class of 2016?

Thank you.

Futuremarinemom: Thank you for your reply. USNA was updated last week with the award information. The USNA has known since last fall that the rescue incident occurred. DS has been in the local news because of the rescue and we did send in the news results. With the grace of God DS have put plan B ( Marine option scholarship) into motion.

I don't think NROTC had 1150 scholarships to hand out this year. Plus if preferred schools were all tip $ that would have had an impact.

TWE here in Texas today. I'm just glad we were a part of this forum so that we could see it coming. Good luck to all of you! There are some awesome kids here with bright futures!!

TWE in MN today. Wishing now DS had applied for NROTC. Thank you to everyone for your support. We should be very proud of our children for making it as far as they did.

God Speed.

Kinnem- are you saying there ae less NROTC scholarships awarded then USNA appointments? I have heard there often are more ROTC candidates then SA candidates since many who apply to SA also apply ROTC and many kids who apply ROatC have no interest in a SA and don't apply to them.

My husband who did AFROTC brought up a point... He wonders if the USNA had record that my DS recieved NROTC scholarship in Nov and says... Well they Navy already has this ekids, let pass the appointment on to someone who doesn't have NROTC scholarship.

stinging but proud

Our DS just recieved a TWE today--he does not know yet, returning from his Spring Sport meet tonight. Feeling very worried for him, his confidence and life goals. While he has great $$ academic scholarships as Plans B,C and D, plan A died today. After last Summer Seminar, he had fallen in love with USNA. His stats were apparently model of "whole person" concept: ACT Math 32, ACT English 34, /sat 650 math, 670 reading, 670 writing. "triple Qualified" 7 Varsity Letters, twice Team Captain, MVP of school team, Qualified and competed at State Finals twice already [State finished: Top 32 in Tennis, Top 37 in Cross Country], NHS, Wrote for Newspaper, President of 2 Clubs, officer in JROTC. And his leadership, values and Integrity exactly matching best of best. TWE says no option for NAPS. While still in running for USAFA [2 nominations for there, too], starting to doubt putting a young person through this process. We are not whimpy parents, just wondering why SA do not check accuracy of other Candidates. One unliked kid at same HS got Appoinment, brags about his cheating/lie on USNA application: kid got in but lied, never was team captain or club Pres. Honor Code? For our DS,April 5 a long time to put life on hold to watch liers get in. Yes, imperfect, but 1st year Blue Gold [non alum] not bother to verify basics! Hope good kids get in!
