2018 Summer Seminar Application Status

Does anyone know if we request which major intro classes we are going to take?

Hi! There's no difference between Session A and B, right? Thank you... I am deciding right now.

My portal added the tab of: USAFA Class of 2023 this morning with my Application: Competitive. I was not selected for the USAFA SS. But I am going to the USNA SS session 1, USMA SLE session 2 and Boys State in Jun. Still waiting for the USMC ALL AMERICAN Academy selection for July.

Not selected... *sigh*
Not selected

It is important to know that the overwhelming majority of incoming AFA classes either didn't apply for or weren't selected for SS. The purpose of SS is to experience what the it's like for applicants who are "on the fence" about attending the SA. If that describes you, it's regrettable that you won't have that opportunity this year. If you have already decided that USAFA is where you want to be, AFA Admissions just saved your parent's approx. 1K in expenses. Seriously, that amount is trivial for some, but would've been a hurdle for many. As a parent, I know families would have scrapped the money together somehow.

More importantly, now is the time to examine why you weren't selected? Some things are beyond your control. For example, you may be from a very competitive state (PA/VA for instance); it's quite possible your application would've been approved if it was from any of the other 48. Things you can control need to be reviewed in an unbiased manner. Take a critical look at your essay, better yet, have an English teacher or someone with superb writing skills review it. I'll bet it could've been tighter. Being able to communicate by writing effectively is key but especially in any application process. Like most things in life, you get better with practice.
In sports, the analogy is that "you learn more from a loss than a win." You just had an excellent "dry run" of your SA application, & it was for free! That's a good thing! Turn this negative into a positive (also a key life skill) to strengthen your SA application (your real goal anyway) by using all of the resources available to you to get it better. You have so many when you think about it. School, librarians, internet, retired neighbor, etc. Call/email your AFA Admissions Advisor & request input on how to make your application stronger, to name a few. Form these people into a team, a team who's volunteering to help you get to where you want to be. It's all there waiting for you to use, learn, & apply. Good luck!

Sometimes its just luck. DS c/o 2021 and his younger brother, hopeful c/o 2023 have almost identical stats and younger brother is a slightly better writer. But older one got in and younger is waitlisted. Both were/are not unfamiliar with military or academy life as they both have their older sister c/o 2018 and other relatives active and prior military and academy grads.

Thank you! DS is not questioning why he not accepted! Dad is Navy and big brother is at CGA sophomore. We are very familiar of NA and of course CGA. DS is interested of AFA and hoping to be selected just to see if he have something to contribute to AF not really what AF can do for him. But he actually have a conflict with the dates. Both Annapolis n West Point summer are paid for and he is the representative of his school for boys state. Glad he is not going to turn down AFA. Thanks again!

You have the same schedule with my DS. How you getting from Annapolis to West Point? We live in Florida. We are driving him to Annapolis and West Point. He is flying back to Florida after WP to make it to Boys State. Also applied Marine Summer and CGA AIM, for July.

SS packing advice? The SS forms have a packing list, however, I also wanted to see if anyone found they needed more of “this” or less of “that” when attending.
Thanks

I’ll probably bring a portable charger so my phone does not run out of charge!
