2020 Hopefuls

Wanted to start a new thread for official canidates starting the application process for the Class of 2020. My DS has begun his journey. He attended CVW back in January and attended NASS session 2. I found this forum to be both educational and supportive. I have learned so much.
 
Any of you know when [at what stage of the application] will we receive the notification for the Health Exam? My son has not even completed the initial profile yet [trying to get everything together] but curious to know when we will hear about scheduling for the health exam?

I've completed everything but the English Teacher Recommendation and CFA. They still haven't contacted me, maybe there is a timeframe they start?
 
Jason922- Probably, applications just opened so it might be a while? I don't actually know when they start doing the medical exams
 
Remember DODMERB is still wrapping up last year's class. ROTC folks don't take their exams until after awarded a scholarship. This board will light up with questions and comments when they start rolling out. Also USNA just finalized up running STEM, SS and I day next week. So they are focused on getting through next week and admissions folks also will be taking a breather. They just got all their TAD Ensigns last week to help staff the office. They will come soon, don't stress it.

Where are you from?
We are in Maryland, about 25 miles from Annapolis so if I can help with area questions please let me know. We have been here for almost 3 years relocated from Orlando FL. Reading all these posts sometimes with DS aspirations to attend USNA wish we stayed in Fl. I am quickly learning that MD is super competitive but thats not stopping my DS. :)

We are from NY. Don't know how competitive NY is. My son is working on his application at his leisure. I have to wait and see how committed he is to the process.

Few questions.
1) what does twe and bwe mean?
2) can you repeat the cfa?
3) how do u know u passed the cfa?
4) if u are over weight for ur height is it better to wait until u go for the medical or is it ok to go and continue to work at staying under height/weight restrictions?
5) is it an automatic fail if u are overweight during the physical?

1. TWE = Tiny White Envelope (bad news). BFE = Big Fat Envelope (good news).
2. Yes.
3. You'll know you passed if you're NOT told you failed, or you can ask your BGO. But, seriously, you are applying to the United States Naval Academy with the goal of becoming an officer. They don't post minimums because you should strive for perfection and not just get by.
4/5. If you are overweight for your height then I would definitely not wait to work on losing weight. I don't know if it's an automatic fail but why chance it. Start exercising and eating healthy and get it done.
 
Weight is not necessarily a failure. They also do a tape test for body fat measurements.
 
Thank you. Have to see how the weight issue will play up. My son is mostly all muscles(bulked up to be heavy weight). If they measure him one inch short he will be over weight by 4 pounds, if measured one inch up (what he thinks his height should be) he will be right at the cut off. So kinda concerned if he should wait until he looses 5 pounds to be safe or he can go for the physical as soon as they say it is ok to do so.
Is this something he can discuss with his BGO?

Certain ones like MOC = Member of Congress are easy.
