Why do I get the feeling this is one of those roller coasters that build up the hype by going uphill for a long time and then goes down slowly (the long waits ahead) haha.

I've completed everything but the English Teacher Recommendation and CFA. They still haven't contacted me, maybe there is a timeframe they start?

My DS just got his DoDMerb forms via snail mail. Might sound silly but starting to feel very real. I would also like to thank NavyHoops for your candid as well as informative responses in this forum. Before the World Wide Web, parents and candidates went into this blind and I for one an extremely thankful that this forum exists.
 
My DS DoDMERB packet came via snail mail today also. They instructed him to schedule the eye exam first, then the physical. I guess maybe more flunk the eye test and therefore never make it to physical?

How far in the application did your DS have to get to get the DoDMERB?

I believe the only thing that my DS has not completed is the personal statement.
 
DS has done everything except CFA and DoDMERB. He has completed his BGO interview but as of this morning, the BGO had not submitted it yet. DoMERB is scheduled for first week in Aug. Gonna have to do that in late afternoon after a football practice. I hope that does not mess him up. He will likely be sore

Question: When I went to schedule the medical exam the office advised the DS can come in Mon-Fri 8am 4pm. No appointment necessary does that sound odd? Scheduled eye exam for this Friday. Question 2: DS is scheduled to have braces off on Sept 1st, do we need to wait until they are off or is a note from the orthodontist ok?
 
Doesn't sound crazy. Some offices work without appointments. Mine works this way. Same with my vet actually, I know totally unrelated. Then again the wait is always an unknown. Probably good to go first thing or ask best times with shortest wait.

Your call on Braces. If you look at older threads in the DoDMERB forum you can see how they handle Braces. It's not a big deal, just needs to be removed before I day. Good luck!

Been a little while since we've posted or read on here. DS is a official candidate and has completed all but the medical (scheduled for next week) and MOC interviews. The waiting game is about to begin! But super excited to be in the game! Way different than back in 1987/88. Great to see everyone on here. From Tennessee! Good luck to all!!!
 
So how far along the application is everyone?

I only need the English Teacher rec (she forgot to do it and it's summer now lol), a transcript sent in, and my nomination packets filled out. Scheduled my medical checkups for this week, and hopefully it will all go well.
 
DS has everything in but CFA and Medical. Medical is scheduled for first week of August. He is off being a camp counselor right now and is supposed to be working out for the CFA (and football). When he comes back he has 3 days before football workouts start. He wants me to run him through a mock CFA to gage where he is. That's gonna be a hot one. Its forecast to be 100+ here in Texas. He also has to finish his Nom packets (about 80% complete). I think he has enough done on the USNA application already to be looked at by the earliest review board but if all goes well he should be 100% complete by late August or early September. Then comes Nom interviews. Oh and by the way that's just for USNA. He was already off camp counseling in the land of no email or cell phones when USAFA elevated him from applicant to candidate so all that is yet to be done. The teachers do not come back to school till late August to be available for recomendations so that will likely be mid to late Sept. before it is done. He wants to have it all complete well before the nomination interview. All that along with playing football and running cross country (running cross country at 6'2" and 195 will be interesting but he thinks it will help his CFA) Sorry for writing a book but that's where we are at.

Brawny77 - the admissions board will only review a packet that is 100% complete - everything on the list in the "middle" of the candidate site. This was made clear to us. Also, I hear that it helps if medical and BGO interview are also complete...
 
Ive sent in my new SAT scores and had the recommendations emailed in, however other than that Im holding off. My new BGO said that since Im a reapp I should do most of my stuff later because they won't even look at me until January
 
Please note that the BGO interview is required for the Admissions Board unless it is the fault of the BGO (i.e. they haven't submitted the interview write-up in the required amount of time).

There sure is a lot to learn here. I cut and pasted the following from the USNA website:

If your record of achievement is truly outstanding, you could receive an early offer called a Letter of Assurance. This indicates our intent to extend an Offer of Appointment, provided all your remaining requirements (nomination, CFA, Blue and Gold Officer interview and medical) are successfully completed. A Letter of Assurance could be received as early as September of your senior year.

So do you have to have the CFA submitted to be looked at by the review board? I don't think DS will be ready for a quality CFA until mid Sept.

The way I read that is no, the CFA does not have to be completed before one can be offered a LOA, but if one does not pass the CFA, the appointment will not be offered.
 
I believe the distinction is that an LOA is given by the Admissions Office, therefore a full record isn't needed. In order to go before the Admission's Board you need a completed record. I believe that is the biggest difference. BGO08, I think can verify this. An LOA will have a list of items that must be completed in order to be extended an appointment, to include a nomination, BGO interview and any items missing from being 3Q (medical and CFA are typically the ones that come up). Also don't assume admissions will find you a nom.

I would love to hear from BGO08 or any of the other BGO's on this as well. But I was informed by both the admissions office and via our BGO interview, that if a packet is not complete it will be put aside until it is completed and then reviewed in full. So if you are missing say a English teacher recommendation, your packet is incomplete and will not be reviewed until it is. Like Hoops said, sometimes an LOA is offered pending Nom & medical (and occasionally BGO interview). But it is my understanding at this point (based off of recent training by our BGO) that CFA must be submitted. It can however be updated along the way, up until December I believe.
