2020 Hopefuls

Congrats to you both! Are either of you being recruited or do you have stellar academics?
Thank you!
Not being recruited.
Just tried my very best to be well-rounded through high school by studying, training, and helping others push forward.

My daughter just received a nomination from her U.S. Representative this morning! I believe that means along with the Letter of Assurance she received back in September she should be getting an appointment as long as she is a good girl and stays healthy!

What a long process and I am very proud of her and all the other applicants that persevere to the end, one way or another. Receiving this news one day after the anniversary of Pearl Harbor is not lost on either her or her parents!

Army/Navy game takes on new meaning this year!

Congratulations to your DD. Go Navy!

Once the nomination shows in the portal, it takes about 4 days to change to "Complete Pending Review" and then a few more for it to change to "Appointment" (based on my experience). You should get the official offer soon! Congrats!

Thank you for that information. I have no idea how that part works so I appreciate you letting me know!

My DD, a high school senior, received an appointment yesterday to USNA which she is planning to accept. Can someone direct me to a source of information of things I need to know as a parent? I am very new to all of this, and thus far, she has handled everything on her own. I am limited in my use of social media, so I am hoping there is a book I can buy or a website that will help. I have looked through some of these forums and so far have gained a great deal of information. Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone.

If you are looking for a book, just do a Google search. You might also check out the FB page for USNA parents. From what I have read on this forum, if you give them a copy of the appointment letter you can join the closed group. Congratulations to your DD.

My DD status says "complete pending review" but she has not received a nomination. Will the status change when/if she receives a nomination?

I believe you will only see a change at the bottom where it says "nominations received" and I think it should show up there if you receive one.

What is the best way to add college activities to your application? After doing a semester at college, there are things I need to put into my application that could help. Any advice?

Email your regional admissions counselor AND your BGO just to be safe that it definitely gets on your file. Your file won't get reviewed as a college applicant until those first semester grades get in anyway so we still have a little time.

Got an LOA two days ago... I checked my phone in class, and everyone was wondering why I was smiling so much lol. I know it doesn't really mean I got in officially, but it still means something . Now I'm waiting to hear from my congressman and senators. Just had my interview with my MOC yesterday. Hopefully I'll hear back soon.
That's how and when I got my notification. I checked my phone in English class and simply stopped breathing for about a minute, passed my phone to my friend to make sure I had read it right, and proceeded to start cycling between gasping for air and losing my breath for another 10 minutes.

usna-parents.org has a LOT of good information for both parents and candidates/mids-to-be, though it's a tad bit dated (from 2006 or so).
