2027 State Nominations Thread

SF-AFROTC nomination showed up for my boy today. Fingers crossed his hard work and multiple nominations does it this year.

So question on the AFROTC/Honor Military Schools nominations. I know that every detachment can nominate up to five and not all detachments actually nominate, so is there statistics on how many in this nomination category are actually competing for the 20 slots allotted to this particular nominating source. Just curious and I miss all the statistical posts that @moho usually provides us.

In this pool are all the JROTC nominees as well. I believe AFJROTC units each have 5 and other branches with honor unit designation can cross nominate 5 ea. My guess is there are hundreds with this nomination source, so most will roll to the NWL if competitive and no other nominations were obtained.
 
I have never understood the fascination with receiving multiple nominations -- unless those nominations are to different SAs which would provide multiple opportunities for selection. Multiple nominations to the same SA, by my understanding, does not provide a better chance of admission. (You just need one to get the "check mark".) In fact, it may limit the selection pool presented to an SA admission board -- which sounds counter productive. I understand that participation in some state districts may be small, and may be this accounts for multiple nominations to the same SA. But this should be the exception. I have come to appreciate the states where Senators and Representatives coordinate their efforts to provide the most opportunity to the most eligible candidates. I don't have a "horse in the race". This is just an observation. Please correct me if my thinking is wrong.

In Colorado USAFA nominations are tough, and our Senators and some of the Congressman work together so generally you won't recieve multiple nominations (not all Congressman in Colorado coordinate with Senators but some including my sons does). So getting both the Senator and AFROTC nomination is a blessing. The benefit of having more than one nomination in my sons example is that only 20 individuals get the ROTC slots out of who knows how many, but if he is on the unranked Colorado Senator slate, that's a 1:10 chance to get it before going to the NWL. Moreover, having more than one nomination gives the SA more leeway in where they charge your nomination, which may end up leaving an open slot for someone else who is only on one of those slates. Say both my boy and your boy are amazing and they want both boys, but mine only has the Senator Nomination and yours has Senator and presidential. He can charge mine to Senator and yours to presidential, which makes two off of the Senator slate before ever hitting the NWL.

You are free to have your own opinion but the academies themselves recommend applying for ALL nominations that you qualify for. Being on multiple slates allows the academies some options in who to take on each slate. Since most MOCs submit unranked slates, a candidate with multiple noms can be "taken" from a slate that better lets the academies bring in more preferred candidates.

For instance, the districts in Northern Virginia are often mentioned as extremely competitive. Say the the best candidate from one of them also has a Presidential nomination. The Academy could choose to bring them in on the Presidential and then also take the District's #2 who is an outstanding candidate.

Your points are well taken. I agree that candidates should pursue all nomination sources available to them. I was not implying otherwise. I see how nominations outside of an MOC plus a nomination from an MOC provides flexibility to the SAs (and to the candidate). My question is the same true for a candidate that has nominations from a Rep and a Senator to the same SA. I understand they are different slates within the state. But it appears that this would take away a potential candidate, particularly in states that are highly competitive, that an SA could consider. This is not meant to be adversarial. Just pointing out that coordination between Senators and Reps seems to be a good thing within a state to ensure the broadest candidate opportunity. Seems to be that some states do and some don't. Glad to be informed differently.

My class of 2025 cadet received the principal nomination from Senator Cantwell and was notified on February 10, 2021. He received his appointment the same day! Hoping his brother will hear some Good news soon! His brother did receive a nom from MOC Schrier.

According to the portal, my DS received a nom from Washington Senator 2 on 1/30/2023. His application for Cantwell was incomplete, so I guess it was from Patty Murray. He hasn't received any phone calls or emails.

Oh congratulations! that’s interesting though, I figured an email would have been sent to those who haven’t received one letting them know. Which academy was it to?

It was for USNA. I suspect that only the primary nom was notified by phone or email.

Yes - my 2025 was a principal for Cantwell and he was notified by email February 10th, 2021 by Cantwell and then appointed the same day. He had received Noms from Schrier and Cantwell. Only Cantwell was the principal. I also have a 2024 cadet who was Schrier's principal and he did not receive any noms from senators. He received a personal call from Schrier a few days before Christmas December 2019, but wasn't appointed until March!
 
Any news from Senator Cantwell (WA)? I understand that Senator Murray has released.

congrats! My son received one as well from Cassidy today (Air Force Academy). Have you heard from Kennedy? we saw he had two nominations in his portal… Sen 81 and 82… it senator 81 is listed twice? Not sure what those all mean? Good luck to you!
