2028 State Nominations Thread

Which MOC? I have tons of friends in areas of socal who have been reached out to by their MOC.

My son got a nomination from a Congressman and got an appointment from West Point. Then we got a call from one of the senators and told that she would also give a nomination to him for West Point. He told the senator that he had an appointment from West Point already and asked if he could get it for the Naval Academy but was told that all the spots for Naval was already filled.

In a case like this, then he has no chance for the Naval Academy, right?
It’s not over until it’s over…make sure he has applied for the VP nomination. My DS applied to USMA and USNA for class of 2027 and received one MOC nomination to USNA, and was eventually turned down in April. Meanwhile, he did not have a nomination for USMA, which was very disheartening for him because he had had a very open line of communication with several contacts there, and they were seemingly awaiting a nomination so they could offer an appointment. He made sure USMA had seen he had submitted a VP nomination application. He ended up going on his overnight visit from his LOE in January, which included a meeting with admissions with a parent. When she asked what else he needed to complete, he told her he just needed a nomination and that he only received one, and it was to another academy. She pulled up his file and was impressed with his test scores and suggested he contact the offices of all 3 of his MOC sources and ask if he could be considered if someone on their slates were DQ’d, or otherwise did not need the nomination, which he did. In that meeting he also straight up said he had applied for the VP nomination and would like to be considered. His VP nomination and USMA appointment came within a week of each other in March/April and he is there now and exactly where he belongs. It was a stressful time but we got through it…but I write this because we were where you are and never thought things would turn out as they did! Also, congrats on the appointment to USMA. At least your DS can hopefully relax knowing it is there if USNA doesn’t pan out, and he thinks he can be happy somewhere else.

My experience is trust the process. It might sound a little silly but as a mom that had several daughters leave for college and rush sororities this sentence was uttered so many times it became ingrained on my soul. And trust me rush week is not for the faint of heart 😂 So when DS didn't get his first choice for his SA there was disappointment but he was offered prep school for his second choice even without a nomination. Trusting the process turned out to be a wonderful experience and now he’s perfectly content and feels he’s where he’s meant to be. Congratulations to your son!

DS checked his USMA portal today. CA27 nomination is now there. Good luck to all!

Has anyone heard from Virginia Senator Kaine regarding USNA nominations? It looks like Kaine's USAFA and USMA nominations came in the mail. MY DD contacted Kaine's rep who said that notifications will continue to come out until January 31st. She's waiting on her USNA nomination. Thank you.

Hi, how did you contact Kaine's rep because I have tried emailing academy_nominations@kaine.senate.gov and calling the phone number posted but didn't get any response. I sent another follow up today but wanted to ask how you communicated with them or used a different email. Thank you.

My DD sent an email using the same email address you posted. She got a response within a couple of days. In the response email, the Kaine Staff Rep posted a direct phone number of Phone (804) 771-2988 | Cell (202) 725-7492. Hope this helps....

Thank you for your quick response! I hope to hear from them soon then, It is certainly helpful and I'll make sure these are the numbers I called.

No worries. Best wishes! I'm sure the Senator's office may be overwhelmed with inquires. Also, they may be screening emails and responding only to actual applicants themselves not to parents or family members. Just a thought.

Has anyone heard anything from PA senators? I know one person who got a nom to WP from Casey today.
