Not really a big deal, but DS got a (desired) nom to USAFA from our congressman. He received a commemorative certificate yesterday, but it said "... on the occasion of your nomination to the U.S. Military Academy." His staff has been pretty disorganized through this entire process, but it would be nice if someone there cared enough to ensure the commemorative certificates accurately reflected what they are commemorating.

They make sure the candidates are all but perfect throughout high school and their applications, and yet....

Has anyone heard or gotten an invite for an interview with any of the New York Senators? I had my congressional interview Nov16th and I haven’t heard back from any of them but the board said I did really well so i’m hoping. Thank you!

My students in NY have 'heard' from them and completed the interviews by phone. Like many large states, it is tough to earn a nomination from your Senators, but the good news is that you have a great chance of earning a nomination from your Congressman. Also, make sure you have your Plan B and C in place, which should include NROTC at a university, with or without a scholarship. Best of luck!

My son interviewed with state senators in December and January in 2018/2019.

They favor downstate applicants imo.

Haven't recieved anything but a confirmation email from the NY Senators. The interview for my representative is coming up soon though. However, one of my friends completed his Senator interview a couple weeks ago.

My DS had one last week & one this week from our NYS senators (both virtually). Congressman is this weekend in person.

Do they tend to do sections separately? I am from Long Island, would my time for the interview be different?

We think the mysterious nom has arrived….in DS’s USMMA portal it says “complete” next to “nomination” as of 11/30/23. Total surprise as he also cleared DODMERB today & he went in to check on that but got quite a surprise. It was sweet - as I walked in the door tonight: “I don’t mean to pounce on you but I have good news!”. I’m pretty sure it’s from our Congresswoman as our previous experience had the IL Senators notifying much later. We’ll see how it goes. Trying to temper the excitement, knowing we are in it for the long haul & nothing is guaranteed.

Anybody received word from Rep. Buck (CO-4) or CO Senators? (Specifically for USAFA but curious overall for all of the SAs)

Congratulations! We haven't heard anything back in Illinois yet. Based on the last few years, we are hoping next week for our Congressman.

Thank you! Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻! It seems like the Congressmen/women are quicker. But I also feel like Senator Durbin could be in the next few weeks based on our experience a few years ago….. Hoping you all hear good news soon!

My daughter just received one for USMMA on 11/29 in the evening. She went on to check which teacher still needed to submit something and saw the nomination. We were surprised. Then last night she went onto USNA to check what action items were left and saw a check next to nomination as of yesterday afternoon, but nothing listed in nominations to know who it’s from. It all feels so mysterious!! It’s so hard as a parent not to stress out for our kids.

Our Congressman Called yesterday and let me daughter know she would receive her appointment Today( she did- it was in the portal this morning)
Interviewed with MOC 11/18, received the nom email on 11/28 and it showed up in the portal that day. Congressman Called with Appointment info 11/30. (she had her LOA and was 3Q already) I know the waiting can be painful and I appreciated to hear other's timelines so I am sharing hers.

Looks like she has a nom. Source doesn’t matter in the long run. Other info will probably eventually populate. Triage the stress. If she is offered an appointmentt, accepts it and heads off to a SA, the stress will quintuple. This is training stress! A good thing!

Thanks for the info! Haha, yeah she is my first born so I feel like this is the hardest thing to go through right now, knowing she may leave. We are a previous enlisted family so you’d think I’d be used to it, but nope.

Congratulations 🎉! It was quite a surprise but we are thankful for surprises 😊. I’m sure something is coming in the mail w/ who it was from for both of our kiddos. We like to send Thank You cards so would really like to know 😂. I know it’s a marathon and not a sprint but I was unfortunately still thinking about it too much. I went to grab the mail before I went into the house last night & someone else had gotten it. That should have been my first clue because .no.one.else. in this house gets the mail 😂. Then the dog came inside (she watches for my car) & was all crazy excited too (jumping on me - a big no, no - kissing me, etc.) like she new too 😂. It was a fun moment in all of the stress/waiting of the past few months. Good luck 🍀 to your DD!!

But she will always come back. Those hugs are the best, as you know from post-deployment experience. And you can go visit her in some great places.

As is often said here on SAF, “You taught them to fly. Now step back and watch them soar.”

I was an only child. My parents struggled a bit with me heading off to Navy OCS, then Rota, Spain, then Naples, Italy (didn’t go home to GA but once just under 6 years), then West Coast and HI. They began to love coming for visits. We had great adventures in Italia and España, and they got to watch their daughter drive in Roman traffic (Dad had his eyes closed), handle all logistics, show them the insider way to see the sights, etc. There will be visits to the SA for special events.
