Hi everyone. I am a cadet reporting Monday. I know A-Day will be the first chance to get to see loved ones after CBT and that there will be a parade that day; however, I haven’t come across much information besides that. Does anyone know if there is free time to visit with loved ones? For further clarification, by free time I mean lunch or a little time away from the Corpse. Thank y’all for any information you can provide at this time! Go Army!

A-Day is mostly for your support group and/or family. They get a chance to see you, hug you ask too many question. They will have gone through a lot of planning and expense to be there with you.

On the other hand,......you...... will know your limits to your right and to your left. You'll want to get away from WP and being under the ever present eye of upper classmen. You're going to want to sleep, get out of your uncomfortable uniform, decompress and eat. You don't want to think about what time you must be back.... but you'll constantly check your watch.

And you'll question yourself and doubt yourself. Then you put your game face back on and endure the next 4 years and understand everyone who has graduated from United States Military Academy went through beast.

In the past you couldn't travel more than 75 miles from USMA and you had to be back by 11:00 pm. You may have Saturday and Sunday to get away.

You'll do well! Don't dwell on the past..... look towards what is in front of you!

And......

I appreciate your response. It has provided the necessary insight I needed to arrange some things.

I am in no way expressing hesitations regarding spending the vast majority of my time at West Point, nor did I intend to show any (nonexistent) nervousness regarding not getting to see loved ones. It was understood by myself and those close to me just what I was getting myself into when I was appointed. The above post was simply meant to answer a scheduling question. Regardless, your encouragement is appreciated and I hope other cadets on this forum can also take full advantage of your advice.

I posted the above question as a favor to someone who is likely going to visit me at that time and who is not an immediate family member but someone who is nevertheless extremely important to me. On behalf of that person and myself, thank you again for your response.

Last year my DD came back to our hotel with us, and had to be back on post to sleep (but it was late, maybe 11:30?), then, we picked her back up in the morning (I think she could have left as early as 5 AM) She had to be back by 7 on Sunday. Lots of sleep and eat on Saturday, bunch of shopping and hanging out on Sunday. 75 mile rule applied then.

Lol, corpse!
You will get to do a lot of sleeping! Cadets get to see family all day sat after parade then back at midnight and Sunday pickup very early then back by 7.
My DD wanted to eat, sleep and shop! She was back by 10 on sat and we picked her up at 9 for brunch more sleep in our room and organized all her stuff that we bought, and back by 5 on Sunday. So while she didn’t maximize all the time allowed we got some good quality time.
