AF ROTC Enrollment Allocation Results

Pima,

I joined afrotc fall 2010 as an as100. First pfa score was ~32. physical fitness had never been a priority. spring 2011 I scored an 86 and met my det minimum of 84. Left the program end of fall 2011 as an as200 for personal reasons, and returned end of fall 2012 to compete as an as200 again. I didn't keep up my fitness while I was away and failed the fall 2012 pfa. Took the ftp pfa in early spring 2013 before ea packages were sent in and scored an 86. Took the pfa again this morning and scored a 92. Low pfa score beacuse I was in the process of getting back into shape--not for a lack of trying or anything.

Realistically you should get a slot because many dets are no longer putting up 100% of their cadets. Many are deciding which cadet to put up and which cadet they should sit down and discuss their future. This is why you are seeing 90% selection rate last yr compared to the 55% two yrs ago. As a tech major your cgpa is in the right range, and I would assume that you have a strong SAT, your det is behind you, so your only flaw is a low PT.

However, that being said, you really need to get into shape starting yesterday. Max 4, 5, and 6 are not going to be pretty for any cadet, but especially for those that are not in shape. July can be 100 degree days with 90% humidity. Running in that type of weather can make you feel like your lungs are burning. You will start to sweat as soon as you walk out the door, which makes doing PT that much more interesting. Our DS would run at the height of the day and for 3 miles to get his body in shape for Alabama.

Your SFT rank will be part of your AFSC board. In a strange way PT will count twice for the AFSC. PT scores are part of SFT rank. Your PT at the det will count also. Thus PT in a strange way is in there directly and indirectly.

Good luck. Just remember it is a straight formula, they have X amount of slots. Above the line you go, below, you don't.

My son was just informed the PSP results (EAs) are delayed approximately one week due to "Air Staff adjusting their accessions requirements"...

This a result from DoD furloughing?

I doubt it is furloughing.

ACCESSION REQUIREMENTS are the key words IMPO.

DrexelDragon - His Detachment Commander notified 200/250s by email.

SoleTrain - Thanks for the laugh before I head to the office...just hang in there and focus on what you can control. And you never know, perhaps "management" just realized that they need more of you terrific young men/women :thumb:

It sucks to know that we could have known if we were going to Field Training today :(

One more week!! (Hopefully they tell us mid week or on Monday)

We were told 2 days ago that it will an extra two weeks until we find out anything due to "Air Force numbers going down, therefore EA's have to be adjusted. Ugh.

GPA: 2.97
Technical Degree
PFA: 93.7
Ranking: We weren't told
ACT: 29

Reminds me of my 30+ years being involved in the Air Force in some capacity (ROTC cadet, AD, Civilian employ in HQAF). Using that experience, let me pass on some advice to everyone waiting on pins and needles right now for words---

Take a deep breath. Relax. Go hang out with friends. Do something else than sit there and worry about this right now. Honestly, at this point it's out of your hands, and you'll find out when you find out. A few days extra waiting ain't gonna kill you.

Also, there is really nothing you can do right now to change your chances or change the timeline of the release of results. You already put in what you can, your grades and rankings will not change at this point, so you shouldn't be worrying about that now. It is what it is.

So, how do you handle the waiting? The expectations? You simply shrug your shoulders and get used to it. It will happen CONSTANTLY during your future career. It's called "hurry up and wait", and its standard procedure for the military.

Does this mean you can't gripe about it among your friends and fellow cadets? Certainly not! It's a time honored tradition, in fact a sport, for everyone to complain a little about the system. Just as long as you also realize....

It is what it is....

The worst part about this limbo point we are in is that my scholarship and entire future hang in the balance. I more just want to know, that way i can get on with life with or without the Air Force.

That's really weird because I heard they had just been giving out ICSP scholarships?

Weird..

ICSP is different in many ways.

1. Because they still will be like Nateman next yr. as 200's.

~~~ No SFT and they can dis-enroll you as a cadet. It really is only a 1 yr guaranteed scholarship. Get SFT and it is 3 yrs.
2. The scholarship really is FY14, and SFT is FY13.
~~~ AFROTC can delay paying the tuition until Oct 1st for many colleges, and there really would be only one stipend before Oct 1st.

3. Once the cadet graduates SFT, they are considered "contracted" whether or not they are on scholarship. That means it will add into their manpower come 2015. Scholarship cadets move from a monthly stipend while in college to yr round, and at a higher stipend. They just went reduced the stipends for next yr., now there will be more cadets on a higher stipend than the ICSP cadet (200) and yr round. Again, they may have changed that too because of sequestration, but for DS when he became a 300, he got his stipend every month until he graduated as a 400....in school or not.

4. SFT costs money.

~~~ They not only need to pay the staff, but they also have to fly those cadets there, feed them for 30 days, pay them per diem for 30 days.
If they stay with the 2200 cadets, assume that it costs 500 per flight, that is 1,100,000 in airfare alone. Assume it costs them 15 bucks a day to feed them for 30 days. That is another @1,000,000. They also get per diem of @ 30 bucks a day (if I recall correctly) which is still more money.
Basically @ 3 Million for 12 weeks. (June through August). Direct costs. Now add in the indirect costs...staff, laundry, uniforms, even the paperwork needed to cut the orders for the 2,200 cadets, it tallies a lot more than most people can imagine.
Finally, TA is a player now AGAIN from sequestration aspects. If the Senate's bill passes next week, it will impact FY13 DoD budget, whereas as I stated ICSP impacts FY 14 yr., and the DoD can plan that out because they have 6 months to get it done. SFT is going to start in June and end in Aug FY 13. Plus, none of us posters know how many of the instructors are GS at Maxwell. They will be furloughed 1 day a week for all of the time SFT is up and running.
Nateman,
If you have strong stats, don't worry. JMPO, but I think if they do attack SFT due to budget issues, I am thinking they are not going to dis-enroll, but do 500's. JUST MY OPINION.
My DS is at FTX at Fort Knox this weekend. He texted me yesterday that his Det. Cammander awarded ICSP scholarships to four 100's within his Detachment.
We had one ICSP this semester but as Pima said, I don't know how strong of an indicator it is for what EA numbers are going to look like. Common sense would tell you that if cuts really were that bad, they would give out hardly any ICSP's. But it seems to be more complicated than that.
Hopefully I will have more information after getting back to school on monday. Our COC is a real straight shooter and will tell us how it is, so we are hoping we get some kind of news about what is going on.
