I have recently accepted an appointment from USAFA. I am wondering what I am allowed to bring to the academy, I know I should get boots but can I bring running shoes or a running watch? Do you get to bring any over the counter meds, I know you have to pack light but I'm just curious what I'll be able to bring.

You can show up with absolutely nothing and you’ll be fine
There’s a list of what is forbidden on the website

+1 @Capt MJ - the 2022 Appointee Booklet will provide guidance, but wait until the 2023 Appointee Booklet is release before you purchase boots, etc. USAFA provides a checklist for a reason - anything not on the list will likely be confiscated the first day on I-Day.

+1 to @FMHS-79. The only constant in the military is change. So just because it was in the booklet last year or for several years doesn’t mean it will again this year. Be patient and bide your time. You have several months to get things done.

I would definitely wait on purchasing boots because i’m unsure if c/o 2023 will be wearing OCP’S or ABU’S during BCT.

Ah . . . the oldest tradition at the Academy . . . CHANGE !!!!

Watch wise, get a basic Casio watch, like the $10 one or something that you don't care if it gets wet or beat up. It may seem super cheap for a watch, but mine that I bought during enlisted BMT is still working 2.5 years later.

You will not be permitted to have a watch during BCT (which is a little bit different than BMT in that regard). Your cadre will wake you up and ensure you are where you need to be when you need to be there.

The appointee booklet, when it comes out, will have lots of great information. Congrats on your appointment!!

Good to know, OP asked about a running watch so I went off of my previous experience with the recommendation. Not being allowed to have a watch seems a little weird to me though.

The packing list from last year included a "Sports watch (rubber or soft plastic … NO metal)", but be prepared for it to be collected for storage during BCT. If you bring one, do not bring a high end GPS running watch, Apple Watch, or the like.

Correct by all means. In years past watches were not permitted during basic. If you brought one, it was returned to you on A-Day after completing BCT.

You'll receive a list of what you can and can't bring. For now, do what you can control like getting into the best shape of your life. Go running. Often! Far and Fast! And do lots of pushups, sit-ups, forward leaning rest, and flutter kicks. Then do exactly what you're instructed in the packet, even if it conflicts with advice you receive on this forum. Congratulations!
