Hey there kiddo. Let me tell you about the last 30 hours of my life. (I just go back home to wyoming). But 1st; I would like to thank all you cadets who took the time and stopped by the tailgate. It wasn't as "populated" as normal; but DUH!!!! There wasn't a lot of fans in the seats. But to those of you who came by, (You sort of had to be there anyway, LOL); it was great seeing you. Glad you could get some chile, steak, and such. It was fun. And next Saturday, I will be bringing you guys some cards I promised.
Fencermother; darling, sister of mine. Yesterday, was the day from HELL!!! Friday afternoon, the snow started coming. Wind and cold so bad, they shut down the interstates (I-80 and I-25) in AND out of Cheyenne. Went to bed at about midnight on Friday. Some snow, but I've definitely seen worse. Woke up the next day and YIKES!!!!! 13", yes, 13 thirteen inches. And the city is shut down. And guess what? The University of New Mexico, after landing in Denver, was on their way to Laramie to play Wyoming yesterday. Well, the interstates were shut down 100%. So, Wyoming, being the hospitable people we are; at 8:30am on saturday morning, had 2 snow plows and a number of Highway Patrol running a Convoy of University of New Mexico busses the 56 miles from Cheyenne to Laramie.
Well, we were going to head south at 8:30am, but as I said, all highways were shut. We waited till 9am, nothing, Waited til 10am. Nothing. Waited til 11am, Nothing. Made up our minds that if they were still closed at 12 noon, we weren't going to make it. Well, the roads opened up a little after 11am, and I posted one last post on the falcon football forum telling the guys that we were going to try for it. Once we got about 40 miles south, the roads were much better, and I was able to get her back up to Mach 2+. Made it down to the springs in 2hr and 20 minute. "Let those truckers roll 10-4".
And yes!!! The game was cold. Quarterbacks were throwing balls into the sidelines (Unintentionally). Empty seats around us had ICE on them from the wet fog that rolled in during the game. Everyone was huddled together.
BUT;;;; The cadets and the fans were fantastic. MOST stayed til the end. We lost, but our boys played their hearts out. And I know that we never get any TCU fans probably on this forum, but I will tell you right now; "TCU IS A CLASS ACT"!!!! After every game, our players go over to the cadet wing area and sing the 3rd verse of the air force song as a toast to those who died before us. And TCU, unlike just about ANY other team, came to our cadet wing area WITH the falcon players and bowed their heads while we sang in remembrance. CLASS ACT!!!! If you see any TCU students, thank them. Texas has ALWAYS RESPECTED the military. If anyone here is from the Dallas area, you should be very PROUD of TCU.
Anyway; it was a close game. Our boys played their hearts out. We'll try again next week. This time against WYOMING!!!! Talk about a conflict!!!! Naaaaa; GO AIR FORCE!!!!! Oh, the weather is suppose to be 66 degrees next weekend. later... mike.....
