Hello all,

I'm a candidate for the class of 2026, and submitted my candidate kit a few days ago. I've emailed my Evaluator ALO to set up an interview, but he hasn't responded yet. I'm not worried about that because I know they got a lot to do, but I was wondering how long the interviews typically are. I'm going to be pretty busy over the next few weeks, so I just want to know how much time I should allot for this interview.

Now, some questions about DODMERB. I'm getting conflicting information on drug and alcohol tests. Some sources say that they do test, and others say they don't. And no, I don't drink or smoke, I'm just trying to understand everything I'm going to be checked on. Additionally, I'm wondering how long it normally takes to schedule the exam. Again, different sources have been saying different things, so if someone who recently did it could provide some insight it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks!

My son’s Evaluator ALO interview took about an hour. The ALO was in an office had others there with him if I remember correctly- it was a while ago in September of 2020. I know there was a time difference so make sure wherever the interviewer is, you understand the time the interview will take place.

My son took care of everything DoDMERB related in September of 2020 as well. He was able to book a week or 2 out and the exam was quick. Again, depends where you live and what the demand is at the location you go to for the exam. He was not drug tested at the exam. He was drug tested when he reported to USAFA in June.

DoDMERB does NOT perform Drug and Alcohol testing.

You won't be authorized to schedule your own exam until the Academy(ies) you applied to downloads you as an applicant to DoDMERB. If you applied to multiple academies, the one that downloads you first, triggers that process.:wiggle:

I’ve read your 2nd paragraph… I can only assume you have not taken your full physical.
With my DS’s physical, he printed the required medical forms (10 pages or more) to take to the examining physician. Line by line, you can review in advance what the doctor is looking for. Hope this helps.

MY ALO evaluation interview took about an hour. With that said, some are longer and some are shorter, in the email my evaluator ALO sent me he said to set aside between 45 minutes and 2 hours. My interview was over zoom.

My ALO interview was about 45 minutes to an hour. It was over a phone call and he reached out to me within about a week of my candidate kit submission. I got an email for the medical exam the same day as my interview. It took about 5 attempts for me to schedule it with my doctor because they were always busy.

For the interview give hour and 15 mintues. For my interview I had connection issue with Skype. My interview was less than 45 minutes ( mostly be cause I keep answering future questions with current ones) however the setting up took 15-20 mintues. Better to have more than less time.

Asking about whether there’s a drug test; because of course you don’t use drugs? 🤔👌🏼

I would hold your doubts. Alot of people ask about experiences simply because it's a possible worry. Anything unknown can cause stress and worry.

For example "DORM INSPECTION IN AN HOUR" ( cue everyone trying to clean that one speck of dust off the ceiling) wait fa second.....we've gone through these how many times and have nothing to hid, yet we get worried Every. Single. Time. Huh ( Unless there's a test that day than we're worried about that).

Even though we've been through it, they love to find new things to "helpfully" point out and it adds an element of unknown which causes worry.

Yet we have never and will never have anything to hid.

It's easy to judge from your perspective of not having that worry, but hey maybe you worry about the essay or tests. Maybe the interviews. Yet you have nothing to hid from admissions either and are prepared.

Just remember "Character is how you treat someone who can do nothing for you" so make sure you keep your character in mind when looking at someone else's life. You cant see their options so why blame them for something they may have no control over? Just food for thought

My prospective cadets ALO interview was 1.5hrs. His physical was about a 10 day wait from the date he scheduled it and then it takes about for it to be uploaded to the portal if all goes well. His eye exam was about the same time frame. Good luck.
