I understand that our local/assigned ALOs no longer conduct the evaluator interviews.
My question: do our assigned ALOs even do any sort of evaluation on us that they send to USAFA?

My DD's assigned ALO sent her an email ref: the interview. He asked her to provide some information that will, apparently, be used for the interview.

If I recall, my DD showed me in the USAFA candidate instructions where is says the interview will be done via Skype or FaceTime.

Assigned as in her LOCAL one or the one that will be giving the interview?

If I recall correctly (I don't have access to my DD's online app), the label next to the LtCol on her app is "Liaison Officer." I remember the area code of the phone # with the name and it's local.

The candidate instruction booklet does say the interview will be done remotely via Skype or FaceTime. I remember that clearly because I thought how different it is from the face-to-face interviews with the BGO and FFR and the guy has a local phone # so why not do it face-to-face?

No one else contacted her than the "Liaison Officer" listed in her app. His only contact with her was the email asking her to provide info to talk about during the interview so we assumed that ALO would do the interview. My DD didn't get the impression there would be a separate local/assigned ALO and interviewer.

In the candidate packet it states that "your local ALO will not be your interviewer." In the portal, under liaison officer, it gives the contact info for local ALO. I am just wondering if THAT person will be doing any sort of evaluation on us.

Once her application is finished, another ALO from around the country will be contacting her to do the skype interview. That is why they use skype because lets say I live in state A and the interview lives in state B, skype is the only option.

The way the process works now. You will be assigned a "local" ALO...they are the "mentor ALO." They are there to help you through the process, help you prepare, etc...etc...they are your POC for all things academy!

The "evaluator ALO" is just that: an evaluator. They will conduct the AF Form 4060 interview via SKYPE or similar system and then report that to USAFA. They are typically not even in your state. I am a Mentor ALO here in AZ...but I evaluate candidates in Kansas and Texas.

By the way, candidates shouldn’t let their guard down just because it’s a Skype interview. Dress as you would if you were meeting in person. Take a few minutes to set up the computer in a quiet, undisturbed place, and check the mike and speakers. Have a glass of water handy. And if it makes you more comfortable, even banish your folks from the house to minimize distractions (or the potential of it).

My DD’s interview was nearly two hours long. That’s probably the norm. Mind your posture and your eye contact — they can slip on Skype. Strap in and best wishes.

VERY true!

The interviews I did last cycle averaged about 90 minutes; some were longer, some shorter. ALL are very comprehensive.

DS is still waiting to be contacted by his evaluator. Should he reach out at all or just wait? His application is complete other than the evaluation.

I'd wait until at least mid-September before reaching out. Lives get back to normal after Labor Day and the evaluater may be vacationing with his family, busy with his real job, or whatever.

The evaluators have been told not to contact the candidate prior to their status changing on the "ALOWEB" which is maintained by USAFA. While your candidate may have finished all their paperwork, until the system has it all accepted, correlated, etc...etc...it won't change the status. Once the status changes, I'd expect the ALO evaluator to make contact.

Our latest recruit had his interview via skype. Our oldest had his interview via local ALO. Let's just say the local interview had better results:)

I don't know any ALO that likes the current system.
