Am I medically qualified

I have been worried about getting medically qualified for West Point for months now. I have a nomination and feel that the qualification is the only thing holding me back. I just got an email with my status, and it says that I am qualified and something will be mailed showing I am officially qualified. I was diagnosed with adhd and haven’t been off my meds for nearly long enough. Will it switch to dq or remedial or is it done and crossed off?

“Qualified” usually means 3Q I believe, but if you were diagnosed with ADHD after DODMERB then that’s probably an issue because that would DQ you. If it was before, then you have likely been off meds for long enough that DODMERB deems you medically qualified (in which case congrats :)).If the former is the case, try to report it ASAP to see if you can get it waived.

My dodmerb status says
United States Military Academy: Qualified
Then you are qualified. If you were honest on your questionair about your diagnosis and your medication then it's in their hands. It is odd that they didn't DQ you if you are currently on medication though.

That’s what I’m saying. I think someone made a mistake but I’m not complaining

I don't know how to feel about this statement. Looking at the future career you are choosing, something seems off...

Well it’s what I really want. If someone made a mistake for me to serve for my country. I’m not going to stop them

I understand man...who complains when people make mistakes that support their lifelong dream? Especially one as valid as this.

And I just got qualified on the West Point candidate portal. So I think it’s set in stone

Just be prepared that DoDMERB may circle back and pull a DQ out of the blue…that happened to me and I was BARELY over the threshold between qualified and disqualified for a condition. I was medically qualified with no problem and got appointed. A month later they suddenly emailed me saying I had to get a waiver. Food for thought because I didn’t know a medical DQ after appointment was even possible until it happened to me.

Okay thank you very much. I am thinking that’s what will happen. But I’m also hoping that won’t happen.

what do you think the odds are they find their mistake?

No way to know unfortunately. Last year the DoDMERB website was under construction from like August to the end of December. I think the reason why they didn’t review my file properly was because of their website maintenance and the fact that all of their data wasn’t stored in one place. You can either take the chance and let it be, or reach out to your FFR/RC. I know one current cadet who has ADHD (I’m not sure if they took meds for it though) and they didn’t have any problems with DoDMERB to my knowledge.

Although, even though you might be qualified as a cadet candidate (meaning you don’t run into issues with DoDMERB now until R day), West Point might catch it if they look at your files later on in your cadet years.

On R day, we had to sit down with a doctor and go over our medical history. Something came up (this medical incident happened when I was 10 years old) but the doctor still brought it up and said that they would have to get a waiver for it. Luckily I explained more about it and he went to go ask his superior and they decided I didn’t need a waiver. But that shows you that even as cadets, our medical records are constantly being reviewed and brought up.

So what I’m hearing is that even if I make it to R day, a doctor still may go over my medical history and tell me I can’t continue because of my adhd?

Yes, so you decide, choose the ethical decision or play with fate.
