How do you know they nominated 2 principals? My state senator named TWO principal nominations to the USAFA. Not feeling very good about my odds at this point. Anyone with any experience with this?
Its released in the newspaper, the senator makes a production of it. He does a ceremony for friends and families
Does he include everyone on his slate in the ceremony? Or only the two principal nominees? And ‘ya never know...either of those may not be completely qualified, or could select another SA or college.
This doesn’t sit well with me. Unless the senator is already aware they are appointed, seems odd to hold a ceremony solely for the “nomination”. Most MOC’s that do the principal method don’t advertise it since they generally want to make as many people as happy as they can.
i don’t know I would assume yes. Last yr he only did one.Did the Senator have 2 slots open? Each have 5 active slots so every 4th year they would have two slots. We had that with Senator Burr last year. He submitted 20 names.
Yes I have a nom from him as well as a presidentialAssuming that you do not have a nom, you are still in race till the end. If your application is competitive and USAFA really really wants you, they will find a nom for you.
Hope you have applied for noms from cong, VP as well.
He is the only senator in our state that does "principal" nominations. They are basically golden tickets which is why he does a ceremony for it. He presented 2 to AFA, 1 to USMM, west point and naval. There are 40 others who got nominations between all 4 SA's but its not released which SA they were all nominated to.Does he include everyone on his slate in the ceremony? Or only the two principal nominees? And ‘ya never know...either of those may not be completely qualified, or could select another SA or college.

Yes I do have a nom from himdid you get a nomination from the Senator? he should still submit a slate of 10 and all you need is to be on the list. The principal if 3Q is in but you would still at least have a nom
I do have a nom from him, but seems pointless as barring any medical or other issues those two will get his open spots by law they have to take the two principal nomsDepends on your Senator and how they handle the nomination process. They may announce 2 Principle candidates whilst sending out letters to the remaining slate. This may take time and I know for mine in the mail, it took awhile to get to my address. Just don't stress and remember to cover all bases before calling it quits!
It is not pointless, do not give up! You have a nom, and a presidential nom option. You cannot possibly know how the SA's will select and charge appointments.I do have a nom from him, but seems pointless as barring any medical or other issues those two will get his open spots by law they have to take the two principal noms
Thank you for taking the time to reach out it means a lotIt is not pointless, do not give up! You have a nom, and a presidential nom option. You cannot possibly know how the SA's will select and charge appointments.
Our DS is classic example, it warped my brain. He had a principle from Senator 2 and competitive nom from Senator 1.
Got a nice phone call from Senator 1 indicating he had received an appointment to USNA and the Senator's office was given the appointment info and happy to call and let him know. We were baffled. He was totally blown away, really expected the name of the Senator who had designated the principle nom to be the one on the phone call, not the one where he was 1 of 10 on a slate.
BUT it means that someone on that principal Senator 2 slate was someone they wanted and they charge noms in such a way that they can build the class they need. Try not to overthink it, you completed the best application you could, you applied for noms available to you. Now, as hard as it is, fingers crossed, you wait. I know it is not fun, and easier to say than do. Enjoy your senior year, and if the news doesn't come that you want to hear, you should have a solid plan B in place and reapply if you so choose. Don't give up!
