Any news?

My 2020 heard from a MOC call, but my 2021 saw it in the portal (no call at all), so I guess it just depends on your MOC and who they have on staff this year.

Are candidates likely to hear first via MOC phone call, portal update or BFE/TWE? I have read conflicting answers to this and just want to know if I should be bothering to check my portal multiple times a day :)? Thx
DS had a portal update, no MOC call, with the BFE following a few days later. :)

Thanks, appreciate the information. Now that the 15th has come and gone, and I'm still on hold, wondering if anyone received any appointment information the past few days?

Definitely not "EVERYONE".
Decisions will be made up until April 30th for any available slots . . .
Starting May 2nd, for those that Declined Acceptance, their offers will be given to those still remaining on the NWL.

"for any available slots" . . . 'any' being the key word here (and how many do we think are left/filled?) If they might take until April 30th to offer (what i can only guess at describing as) a 'targeted # of offers', are they offering those from the NWL? or do those who have already gotten a NWL letter have to basically wait until May and hope that new slots become available?

I appreciate all the information on this thread as well, as my DS is in the same boat as you (on hold). I too am wondering if they are still being sent out? At some point we are going to have to put deposits on plan B (which I would gladly eat if he got accepted), but DS does not want to tell the plan B coach he will be on campus there and then have to back out if he gets in USMMA (which was always been his first choice) . Also it's a small world with NCAA coaches and he does not want to do anything that will hurt his chances, like signing an acceptance letter to another University. Which at this point, it is still a moral dilemma for him if he had to back out.

Any scraps of info that might help keep hope alive?

We were there a few weeks ago. So far as the deposits and the moral dilemma, I put the deposits down and DS struggled with the roommate portal, but was always clear with other coaches about his first choice. DS found the he had multiple other engineering/athletes reach out as potential roommates that seemed to be great fits, but that each moved on to other choices when he could not commit. Whoa, I had no idea how developed the roommate matching has become. Then the offer came.

So I feel your angst, we are a first time Kings Point family. I can only say that since acceptance we have met many other families of those accepted and those waiting on hold. We saw another friend of DS (same smallish school) receive and accept an appointment in February. Then we heard from quite a few they don't like to make multiple offers to the same school. Fortunately, those concerns weren't merited.

What I have learned is that few really know what is coming in the next couple of days /weeks at KP during April. That there will be offers declined up through the return date of May 1. That they will fill those available slots and that the opportunity, while uncomfortable in process, is worth the effort.

I completely agree. It's like childbirth for you moms on the forum. It takes 9 months and after the appointment comes you forget about the anxiety and hard work. We are going through the process with our third child, and this year marks our second USMMA appointment. Good luck to everyone still waiting and building character.

The "still waiting and building character" is a very true statement. If DS actually gets an appointment, I actually think the wait may have been good for him (despite all our angst) and probably prepare him better for the academy. We have seen much maturity build in him from the long process which is very good, but at this point we can only hope that it represents something to built on, and not just a hard lesson. We have always been straight up with the coaches, so that (people) portion of it is not really the dilemma, it's really more the signing what is essentially a contract with the thought that he might not be able to Honor it, that is a much bigger issue to him than than most (including us parents). He is the type that would certainly be better off at a school with an honor code, and it's something we as parents refuse to break (no matter how hard the line is to walk)..........

.......so here we sit and hold.

You will continue to see movement for the next few weeks. Kings Point generally has more late activity than the other four academies in my experience. Lots of appointees do not have USMMA as their first choice, and many will opt to decline an offer in order to accept an appointment to another academy or for ROTC offers. That is part of the upside for those who understand what a great opportunity awaits at KP. Hang in there as I predict late appointments for many still waiting. Not from any inside information, just a mom who has gone through the process three times.

This was my impression as well, and USMMA is his first/only choice (he did not apply to any others). Really is a perfect fit for him, and we had such positive feedback through the whole process. It's very hard not to think that the ship has sailed without him at this point, and he continues to run and train in preparation even though it seems unlikely now. Only thing we can do now is reinforce the idea of being ready if/when your name is called, and maybe hope?.

My kid's LOA was rescinded on 4/13/17 due a Medical DQ. His waiver status is still pending...I just wish he can find out soon about the waiver so he can move forward with the application for 2018!

It is very tough...my son is still hoping! Best wish to your son...sounds like you have a great young man there!

@Faith Now is when you need to pull out all the stops. The same thing happened to our DS last year at the end of March. His LOA was pulled and he was DQ'd due to a "history of shoulder dislocation", which never actually happened. He only had some tingling in his arm after being hit during a football game. I don't know the particulars of your situation, but as soon as the LOA was pulled, we contacted a highly respected local orthopedic surgeon and explained the situation, and the sense of urgency with the looming deadlines. He got us in right away, reviewed the MRI, gave our DS a thorough examination, and a clean bill of health regarding his shoulder. His assistant wrote up the report and we sent it to DODMERB. We also called our DODMERB rep and alerted them to the incoming paperwork. Our DS's status changed from DQ back to Pending Waiver. A few days later, he received his appointment.

Your situation may be very different, but if your DS/DD was DQ'd for something you think is "ticky-tack", don't hesitate to go all out and substantiate your case. A call to your nominating source wouldn't hurt either.

I have a procedural question. Having just learned that another candidate from our congressional district is going to turn down his appointment to USMMA,
will admissions look at our state or district first (or at all) for a fully qualified candidate to fill the slot, or is it all one big national pool of candidates for any remaining slots (as the NWL letter we received seemed to indicate)?

What is the difference between Hold status and the NWL, if any? Thx

I have no idea, but DS received a NWL letter and his status on the portal was changed to 'Hold' right about the same time (so he's currently NWL with 'Hold' on the portal) . Like you I was curious if there was any real difference between the two. Some people get put in 'hold' status much earlier (i think meaning they are qualified to compete against others in state (then National?), so the standard for 'hold' must be a separate event.

Thanks for your valuable advice....we emailed his DoDMERB rep additional paperwork and still waiting....this process is a rollercoaster but my son determines to re- apply again if he does not get a waiver this year!

I attended the Open House today. I was told that about half the offered appointments have been accepted. I know one was handed in while I was there. They are looking for a 2021 Class size of 280.

Wow, that is pretty surprising. I had figured that by this point they were probably down to a handful or so slots left. If they have only filled half, then possibly 140 slots left to fill? Sounds too good to be true for someone on the NWL. Maybe the rumor that things were taking longer because all the academies were having to take more time to figure out how to rank/rate the new SAT's has some truth to it. I realize that many candidates apply to several academies and wait until very late to get get responses from them, but wasn't that all done by 4/15?

Thanks for the hopeful news, maybe there is more time left on the process clock.

Yes, I too was surprised to hear how many "spots" are in the balance. Hang in there troops. DS is making last trip to secure plan B, NAME at UNO and "walk-on" at NROTC.

The way I'm reading this is that they likely offered spots to up to 400 applicants, to get the class of 280 they desire. (Based on past years numbers). If half the 400 accepted, that leaves 80 left. Still a decent number, but not quite 140. I hope the above posters are correct and I am wrong. Either way, without knowing how many remain on hold for these 140 or 80 spots, it's all kind of moot. Good luck to all.
