Hello everyone! I am applying for AROTC, and have a pretty competitive application (4.0, 35 ACT) but weaker fitness scores. I also have a lot of leadership (in school + Boys State Governor). I was looking to maximize my points on the CBEF as well and was wondering if anyone had any tips. I know it detects exaggeration and I should answer honestly, but please let me know if there is any "strategy" or something I should focus on. Lastly, is there anything I should do right now to maximize my chances of getting the 4-year scholarship?

No need to exaggerate. My son was on track to become an eagle scout when he did his application (under board review). He wrote down Eagle Scout candidate. It worked out fine.
I would plan a one month workout to improve fitness score and prepare interview.
If you plan to do tech major, try AFROTC or NROTC, they are more interested in students with super academic scores like yours.

Sounds good, thank you for the advice! I am also applying for AFROTC and NROTC (and working on improving the fitness score, currently around a 30-40 pushups + 7:30 mile run, but looking to improve!).

Start with 5 sets of 20 push ups per day for the next 30 days. That will get you from 30s to high 40s in a month or so. Training for the mile is not distance running, but middle distance. Find a flat 1/4 mile stretch, and after a 1/2 mile warm-up, sprint the 1/4 mile, then jog very slowly back to where you started and do it again. Try to complete 3-4 sprints initially, but the key is to run the sprint in the same amount of time. If your goal is 1:30 seconds then you should run each sprint + or - 5 seconds. Do that workout twice per week, and jog 2-3 miles twice per week, and you will improve quickly. Not sure of when you plan to take your fitness tests, but you have at least 2 months.

With your grades, ACT and Eagle Scout candidate, if you get to average you will be a fine candidate. But keep in mind, once you hit campus in August 2025, average fitness level won't be good enough.

There is no strategy to game the CBEF. It has been in use for about 10 years now and is designed to guage an applicants propensity to successfully serve. There is a lot of data backing that test up and there is no way to out think it. Your strategy should be to set aside some time and do it in one sitting and answer all the questions the best you can. You will never know how you did and very few people know what the "right" answers are.

As far as strategy for the application....keep working hard in the classroom (scholar), stay physically fit (athlete) and stay involved and active (Leader). Find an experienced ROO to provide some feedback on your application and make sure you are putting together the best application you can. I've seen plenty of well qualified applicants that waste too much time on things other than making that application as strong as it can be.

Don't overthink the process. If you are what we are looking for you will be successful.
