Army ROTC 3rd Board Results...

Congratulations to all of the new winners! I was fortunate to receive a 3 year scholarship during the second board, however this afternoon I received an email that my 3 year has been upgraded to a 4 year scholarship! I did not even realize that was a possibility but it definitely made my day! And it just goes to show that you never know what can happen.

Keep watching the mail to see if they move you further to top of the list -- summer vacation canceled and replaced with Boot Camp...

Just kidding - I don't think that happens. Unless you're really good!

Congrats to all! :)

My thanks to the members on this board for wisdom and assistance.

My DS still B/UC, but I read the suggestion yesterday to direct call the ROO. MY DS had not actually communicated yet with his current #1 choice (since his list of schools changed quite a bit since September). In any case, he called the unit directly and has now learned about the possibility of scholarships (not sure yet what tenor) directly from the ROTC unit. Interview pending for next week.

Do I wish he had a scholarship locked up now? Of course. And yet, do I mind that he now needs to show some grit and tenacity (in place of perhaps earlier overconfidence...)? Not a bit. All good experience - and if he does get a scholarship directly from the school his loyalty and eagerness to prove himself to the cadre will be that much higher.

I am still quite proud of the 2 year scholarship I "fought" for (top 15% graduate) between sophomore and junior year at Ft Knox Basic Camp.

Many options down the road to serve the country as an officer. Congrats again to all who have cleared the bar in this round or an earlier round!

In the famous words of Jimmy V : "I just got one last thing; I urge all of you, all of you, to enjoy your life, the precious moments you have. To spend each day with some laughter and some thought, to get your emotions going. To be enthusiastic every day, and Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Nothing great could be accomplished without enthusiasm,” to keep your dreams alive in spite of problems whatever you have. The ability to be able to work hard for your dreams to come true, to become a reality."

Calling the #1 school ROO about the National Scholarship? or calling for campus based scholarships to earn throughout Freshman year?

Has anyone heard of a “not selected”? We are still B/UC and I am wondering if they haven’t sent out the non select notices yet..?

I was not on the call, but I don't believe there was suggestion of influence on the National Scholarship. It did sound like possible early award of campus based scholarship, but I really don't know yet.

My daughter committed to her #1 school back in October because of a unique program their mechanical engineering program offers. She received a 3yr AD at 3 of her other choices (#'s 2, 3, & 5). She is working on her letter of transfer request but is struggling with what exactly needs to be included in that letter or how long it should be. Does anyone have any words of advice I can pass along to her or know where she might see some sample letters? She desperately wants this transfer to be approved so she wants to make sure the letter is precisely what they need to see.

Thanks!

This past week USACC awarded scholarships to 1,003 high school students as part of the second (of three) scholarship boards. These scholarships included 553 four-year offers and 450 three-year offers bringing the total scholarship offers for the year 1,194. Those who received four-year scholarship offers averaged a 1399 on their SATs with a 3.81 GPA.

250 scholarships were upgraded

Wow, that’s a lot. The upgrade letter says 4 years go to the top 1,000 applicants. Does that mean they held 250 4 years for the third board but didn’t have any candidates with higher scores than folks on earlier boards?
It all checks out now. Combining @Montana State Army ROTC's data from February with the upgrade letter yields a total of 4 year winners of 994. So to get to a total of 1000 4-year winners, that means they awarded just 6 "new" 4-year winners on this last board, with the remaining new winners being 3-year.

I wonder how many new 3-years they awarded, because once you back out the 250 upgrades, that means there were only 200 3-year offers coming into this last board that remained 3-year offers. My guess is that rather than awarding 2,800 new 3-years on this last board, which is what they would have had to do in order to keep the 25% / 75% ratio of 4 year / 3 year winners that has been often quoted here, they dropped the overall number of 3-year winners. Just my guess though. If correct, then they'll have a lot of campus-based to give out this year.

There is less money moving forward. So little we can’t pay this year’s scholarships to the schools. They’ll find it, but we expect fewer and fewer campus based scholarships.

so students need to figure out other ways to pay. SMP non-scholarship in states that either cover tuition for guardsmen or grant instate to guardsmen (Montana is passing a law like this).

Do you think Major selection played a role in scholarship decisions?
