Army ROTC drug test

Hey Nelson,

Hoping this finds you in good health. Idk if you are still in the military or whatever. I actually don’t know if you can even still see this but I was actually going through a problem where I got fed an edible at a “party” on campus. I say party because I guess that is the correct term but we really were just watching tv and eating snacks. I got either a gummy bear type edible and that really messed me up. I popped hot on the test and almost lost everything. I scoured the internet to find any type of help on this thing.
Well I came across this thread and kinda got it. Aside from the initial responses that seemed to demote someone that has had a run in with drugs instead of be helpful and give advice. I realize your older but history has a tendency to repeat itself so thanks.
There are multiple newer threads on here from people who "accidentally" or "unknowingly" ingested drugs and are looking for advice. You can search for them if you like using the search function on the upper right portion of the page. What i read from your post is that you are a completely innocent victim here. You had no idea the people you were hanging out watching TV and eating snacks with used any kind of drugs and just happened to eat a single gummy bear that was, unbeknownst to you, laced with THC. No one was more surprised than you when this happened.

There is no magic advice that will solve your issue here in these forums. The best advice would probably be to seek legal counsel experienced in military/ROTC matters. There will almost certainly be a disciplinary hearing related to your positive test. That discipline could include up to disenrollment. If you are on scholarship, that could mean repayment of money paid out to you.

nelson, your comments are highly inappropriate and immature. Just know that there is a price to pay for breaking the law. You could be the most patriotic person on the planet, but if you break the law, expect to pay a price for that. No one is above the law, not even the President of the United States. And the military isn't looking for officers who don't lead by example.

Your question was duly and properly answered. No one around here will advise you on how to shirk your responsibilities as an officer. One day, you will be called upon to enforce these policies with your soldiers (assuming you've learned from past mistakes and will never, ever repeat them). You need to learn that now, because that is not the type of leader that our military needs. The folks who responded to your inquiry are far, Far, FAR from judgmental. Give yourself an attitude check right now and move on as a future leader. If you are not prepared to do that, move over because there is a long line of folks behind you wanting to serve. Offending folks who are trying to help will get you nowhere -- not here, not in the military, not anywhere.
Respectfully, smoking weed isn’t a crime in most places anymore. As for your comment that no one is above the law…. I’ll leave that alone.

Edit: Damn zombie thread got me! The “no one is above the law“ comment is even funnier 11 years later!

I realized it was a zombie thread when I saw Banned Luigi from 10 years ago. Had a good laugh and realized I have been dropping by here for a while.

Alright, I understand that using drugs is wrong, that's why I'm not doing it anymore. What I don't understand is why people think it's so terrible for me to ask the question. I did it, that's in the past. Whether or not there is a place for it in the military is really irrelevant since I'm done with it. All I really need to know is whether or not I'll be tested when I show up to school next week. Everyone is just giving me information I already have.
I have 3 sons 17, 19 and 21. Your take was you were judged. What you will find when you ask military people a question you will get the unvarnished truth and their opinion. Without respect for your feelings. That will be your experience throughout military life. Instead of being defensive you should probably just pause to take in the fact or how smoking weed is viewed for a person who hopes to be an officer. Let that judged feeling stick with you and resolve to improve from it. I find no sense in arguing someone's opinion.

Thanks for reply, all branches of the military take their “zero tolerance” mantra for drug use seriously. This explains why drug use can be a very debilitating factor in one’s military career. The consequences < Removed link> of MEPS drug test results that come back positive are vast. It can range from administrative separation, court-martial charges to complete removal from the service.

At a gap of 11 years between posts, I'll bet this sets a new SAF record for a revived zombie thread.

The subject, however, remains relevant. Though one of these days it may have to be updated for a new marijuana exception.
