Army ROTC offers

ROTC units are like restaurants. There are great ones, pretty good ones, and lots of bad ones. Choose wisely.

Please complete this list of great ROTC units in order of greatness:

1. Marist
2.
3.
4.
5.

BTW DS transferred his single AROTC scholarship offer from "more prestigious" GA Tech to "less prestigious" Big State U while in Taiwan for the year. Prompt, helpful reponse of Big State U AROTC unit combined with their apparent comfortable relationship with Big State U admissions department/administration impressed us.

DS couldn't be happier with the school or the ROTC program.

In my thesaurus, prestige and attitude are synonyms.

I checked my ROTC scholarship status a few days ago and found that I've been offered a scholarship. I haven't checked my status since the end of January, so it could have changed anytime from Feb. 1-Feb. 17, however I haven't received a letter yet. Would my deadline for accepting the offer still be Feb. 29?

I would immediately contact CC AND a ROO from one of your schools to confirm the award and find out what happened to the letter with the offical offer. Paperwork does get lost and you need to follow up on this NOW.

Scholarship Offer

My daughter's status just changed today to "You have been officially offered an Army ROTC Scholarship". Offer was to her first choice school, University of Kentucky.

We are sooooo excited that we don't have to sit and wait for the 3rd board results. I did not know you could receive offers in between boards BUT we are beyond excited. Should receive official letter within 7 days status states...we will be watching for the mailman every day until that official letter is in hand!

Congratulations to your daughter, I bet there is a lot of excitement at your house today.

Cadet Command seems to be doing things a bit different this year. In previous years I don't remember applicants getting offers this late after the board had met. I have seen a few others posting here that they have recieved good news as well. Great news to all who have received offers.

KY MOM,
Congrats to your DD on her scholarship to UK. My son will be attending UK on an ROTC Scholarship also, be it Air Force. My DS'S ROO recommended the ROTC Living and Learning Community at Kentucky for incoming ROTC Freshman. From what I understand, Kentucky has two floors in one of the dorms reserved for ROTC students, both Army and Air Force combined. Just something you might want to check into if you have not already, Congrats again and GO WILDCATS!

3rd AROTC Board was today. What is the estimate for offers starting to appear online? Good luck...Son got QNS today for USMA so we are hoping for better news here.

Best guess is at least 2 weeks before anything happens status wise, of course with this being the final board anything can happen.

Good Luck

March madness has a whole new meaning now:wink:

Thoughts are with all of you that are waiting results and the ever hoped for status change. For those that do not get the desired status change, where there is a will there will be a way:thumb:

who told you board met today. First off, it takes a couple days to review a couple thousand files. Secondly, my tracker say 5 March for third board,

http://www.army.mil/article/74197/Combs___Blessed__with_opportunity/

COMBS: Our new scholarship model is exciting. It's designed to increase the flexibility and opportunities for our professors of military science and our brigade commanders to award scholarships to students they have seen prove themselves, or they have seen potential in, within their programs.

Going from a centralized national process we had in the past where we only knew a student by their applicant folder and a couple of exposures to a professor of military science through interviews or the physical training test, I think the new model is much more flexible -- three-year dependent, vice the four-year dependent model, will assist in better precision recruitment.

I tell all future applicants, apply for the four-year. But realize we're going to be highly selective, and there are going to be very few of those given out. I always tell them that if they don't get that four-year scholarship and in their heart they want to serve, go join a four-year program and allow the professor of military science to see your potential so you can possibly be very competitive for that three-year on-campus scholarship. This new system will allow us to recruit and retain the highest quality Cadets possible.

Received official letter

That was quick! Scholarship status changed on February 29 and the official letter was received today, March 2. Of course, it probably helps that we live in KY and the letter comes from Ft. Knox. Glad to have the letter in hand...my daughter will sign tonight and put it in the mail first thing in the morning. Couldn't be happier for her:smile:

I think what is happening is either CC or schools are making offers outside of the board cycle. The board doesn't meet until 5 March, so there is no way this offer came from the third board. I also saw one of my applicants get an offer at a weird time, to a school other than mine...about 1/2 way between boards. That is great if you get an offer to the school you want, but what I am wondering is if a school makes one of these offers happen I think it takes you out of the running for getting an offer from any of your other schools. Not sure if this is a good thing or not.

If I remember correctly, if a candidate receives a single-campus scholarship offer from CC between boards, CC takes them out of the running for any other (board) offers. That was what I remember from our experience.

I don't think these offers come unless everyone is on board that this is the desired outcome from candidate and school.

Great article, BTW, even going beyond the snippet you used. The advice about being yourself is also great advice for cadets.

Offer

It is my understanding that my daughter's offer came when the school RO called cadet command and asked them to "use" one of their school's Professor of Military Science offers. She received a 4 year full tuition offer from the Army ROTC (which has received from Cadet Command on Friday and she already signed). You are correct that she will not get an offer to any other school now or from the third board. She had to take the offer from the school that requested her before the 3rd board. This was not a 3rd board offer. Luckily for her, it was her number one school and she is thrilled.

Congratulations to your daughter, that is great news, she must be thrilled. There is a lot to be said for going to a battalion that has such interest in you and the fact that it is her #1 choice makes it even better. Your daughter has a great 4 years in front of her, tell her to make sure she works out....All the time...be ready to pass the APFT on the first day not by making the minimums but by exceeding them, this will put her in great standing from day one with the cadre and will put her best foot forward.

Again, congratulations, I bet it is all smiles at your house, it's a great feeling to have everything tied up neatly early, she can really enjoy the final months of high school.

Congratulations are certainly in order. She must have impressed someone to get the PMS' offer. I assume here that you've had some contact with them to let them know she would accept because they just don't take too many chances on those offers. Says something special about their confidence in her committment to ROTC and Kentucky. :thumb:

Congratulations, KY MOM!!!!!!!! And thank you for sharing this information! This is proof-positive of how important it is for candidates to maintain regular contact with the ROOs and PMSs. Your DD may not know this, but she is already setting an example for many others to follow and hasn't even shown up for an MSI class yet. :thumb:
