AROTC January Board Acceptance

No change in status

I've been checking throughout the day for my son, and no change in status yet....

Congratulations to those who have been notified!

For those of us whose status has changed to the DoDMERB website...anyone know how long it will be before the status updates with the list of schools you've been given offers too? Thanks.

No clue...but my family is going crazy guessing. Well, my husband and I are. My son says he won't believe he won a scholarship until he gets it in writing.

My son was notified yesterday by the enrollment and recruiting officer of one of his schools. He was offered the 4-year scholarship from three of his chosen schools and was told his letter would be arriving within a week from Cadet Command. We had been checking his status also, and the day prior his status changed from "Prepare for an Interview" to "Contact DodMERB", so we had a suspicion he had been chosen the day prior to receiving the call from the school. Good luck to all of you and congratulations to the cadets who have been notified. You've all worked very hard for this honor!

Anyone know how long it takes before your status shows the schools that you have been offered to?

After the second board, it took only 2-3 days for the "DODMERB" status to change to the list of schools offered.

CC does work on some Saturdays!

I removed the comment so we're not all jinxed!

The last time I spoke with CC my contact told me they were, in fact, coming in to work on a Saturday. So, don't worry about getting "jinxed" on this. If your status changed from the "PMS interview" status to the "check DODMERB" status, then you have more good news coming. Congratulations!

So if your status still says "You have been selected for an interview. Please contact the Professor of Military Science at the school of your choice." Does this mean we have to wait for the next round, ughhhhh only 2 more boards left!!!:confused:

Kydad, you are correct. However, I don't think it is clear yet that all the awards for this board have been issued. Perhaps more will keep coming out early next week.

For those that are getting an offer from the January Board (DODMERB message), how many of you were:
a. Reviewed for the first time in the January board, or
b. Had been reveiwed at a prior board (October of December).

Upcoming Boards

Early in January, Cadet Command provided the following upcoming board dates:
Jan 11-14
Mar 1-5
Apr 5-9

It looks like notifications start about two weeks after the end of each board.

We too have been awaiting a change on the application status page - nothing yet. We're still waiting and hoping.

My son got his packet in just in time to be seen by the second board. He didn't make that one but did get the  from this past board. After missing on the second board I contacted CC and was told he was very close and should be patient ( yeh , right ) . The PMS from one of his listed schools told me that the first and second boards where primarily focusing on academics and they typically are. He told us that the boards that follow will begin to look at the rest of the packet like sports, leadership , JROTC, Community involvement ETC. At that point I asked if he should update his packet every time he received an award or recognition from the community, state, school or any other place. I figured the more the merrier but was told that he had maxed all areas except his ACT and not to bother updating anything unless he retook and improved his ACT. He retook it but the score remained the same . I hope this bit of information helps. I know stumbling onto this website has helped me immensely and will be watching for more happy postings tomorrow. Good luck to all of you and your children.

Ranger6, how did you contact cadet command? Because whenever I call my POC it seems like I get my question answered with the fewest words possibly and then promptly shown the door.

And do you know if each board will focus on a different pool of applicant (ex: sports, JROTC, academics)?

We received a letter early on and the contact was listed. My POC has been tremendous. She even called me on a Saturday at 8am prior to the second board to let me know my sons interview had not shown up yet even though the PMS he interviewed with told me he had faxed it. Because of her above and beyond action I was able to track down the PMS and had him resend it to her directly. He had sent it to the wrong fax number.
As far as I know the boards coming up look at the new applicants only so that they can be scored and placed onto the order of Merit list. The first two boards focused on ACT scores because they felt those students with MAX or near Max scores would have a better chance of getting accepted into the schools the scholarships where being awarded to.

Would a 32 be considered near max? My application was completed before the first board, but I still haven't been awarded a scholarship and am starting to be worried. I ran cross country for four years at school, am an Eagle Scout, and was dedicated to two clubs, both of which were also in leadership positions.

My physical was my weakest portion, because I took it through my school during off season (where I became incredibly unathletic).

I also wrote a fairly political essay, but not in any sort of persuasive way. Merely describing how my political beliefs (which are very important to me and my character, unexpectedly fit with my desire to enroll in ROTC.

Will I be outright rejected if my physical fitness don't meet the requirements, even though they will once I start working out?

My son had his application done and submitted for the first board and the others that came after.

Your school physical shouldn't have been in your packet as far as I know. The only one the board is concerned with is the infamous DoDMerB one. Yeh I would say a 32 is considered a near max. Great job on that.
Unless your Essay was way out there as far as left or right of the U.S. view on world events then I would think a fresh approach to an essay would be welcome reading verses the "status-quo" approach some take just to ingratiate their way into the group.

I'm sure they meant the results of their Physical Fitness test which is part of the application packet.

From what we've been told, once you are seen by a board and given a score, that score will only change due to increases in either your SAT or ACT score.

Redoing your PT test, re-doing the essays or winning any other awards will not change your OML score. SAT and ACT increases will automatically increase your score if they receive the updates.

Ranger6, is there any way I can get your POC's number?

I just want to make sure everything is smooth and try to find out a couple tid bits of information.
