DH’s birthday today. The Lewnes’ Steakhouse in Annapolis dinner evaporated due to restaurant dine-in closure. Travel of DBIL and DSIL curtailed, breaking a long chain of birthday dinners together.

Mustering my strength, I delivered a housemade bacon-cheddar-horseradish cheese spread on pita chips, garlic rubbed rack of lamb, roasted potatoes, marinated tomato and onion salad. The pound cake swirled with a PB swirl and a dark chocolate swirl, topped with fresh raspberries, awaits. The 2013 Daniel Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley was superb. Note “was.”

The tips were non-existent. An unusual birthday.

Good grief, you cannot make that stuff up. Our son was in Baltimore for FBLA nationals 2 years ago. He said the hotel was awesome, but they were advised to not venture too far away from it.
He and a fellow competitor googled a starbucks and chose to walk, it was just a few blocks. Picture two all american young men, in suits, with ties and 'lanyard' name tags walking down the street. He said within one block he knew they had made a mistake. His companion started to look like a deer in the headlights. He told the guy eyes forward, act like you do this every day. They made it to the starbucks and he called me, wanted to know if Uber would pick him up since he was only 15. I told him to act 21. They made it in the uber back to the hotel.
The next day, the AZ team watched a guy get robbed by a machete at an ATM.
I told him it was all preparation for adulting.

Now, put the guns and machetes down folks so we can help sick people, geez.

As a resident of the DC-Balt metro area, we usually have the Baltimore NBC affiliate news on during dinner prep. DH and I joke, but sadly, about what method (gun, knife, beating, etc.) we think will be mentioned in the near-daily lead story about a Baltimore murder. Every night, it seems, there is a violent crime resulting in death as the lead off. Sigh.
