Theres a movie called Annapolis, detailing the Academy with James Franco... never seen it but it looks interesting!

Annapolis is extremely fictional. Not even at Annapolis

"Blue and Gold" with Jimmy Stewart

"Blue and Gold" Lots of footage of Bancroft and T-Court. Army vs Navy football etc.

The Caine Mutiny

A Few Good Men

Mister Roberts

There are other good ones but I need to run. Someone stole some strawberries out of the Wardroom icebox and I think there might be a duplicate key out there.

It's not and it's bad...save yourself some time and go with some of the really good ones (there's no shortage) that have been noted in this thread and enjoy yourself.

We all have our own favorites of course, my own is the German language version (with English sub titles) of Das Boot...galvanizing if you haven't seen it (in any of its versions).

"Annapolis" is mostly a sports movie (boxing). It was so far-fetched and unrealistic the Naval Academy refused to cooperate with the filming because it did not accurately represent the Naval Academy in any way. Consequently, no scenes are actually filmed on the Yard.

I couldn't get through the first 15 minutes of the movie without turning it off. I've never watched it through-and-through and I have never heard anybody who is knowledgeable of the Naval Academy speak favorably of this movie.

Here are some selected scenes that I have extracted from the 1935 film "Shipmates Forever". I only extracted those scenes which highlight the academy. It is quite evident that the Naval Academy cooperated greatly with the making of this movie. I believe that many of the extras are actual midshipmen.

If you know the layout of the Naval Academy very well, you may find this interesting in how much it has changed over the years.

"Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance"

I know it is a mini series (actually two mini series), but I love "The Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance". The original books were written by Herman Wouk the author of "The Cain Mutiny". The Winds of War is I think seven episodes about 9 hours and War and Remembrance is 12 Episodes about 17 or 18 hours.

+1 Sidney, Das Boot is a GREAT wartime drama. A must see in my IMO.
