BGO not submitting interview

I did my BGO interview about a month ago and my BGO hasn't submitted my interview yet. Should I contact him about it?

He will submit it. Don't worry. Sometimes they go on vacation and have lives other than BGO that interfere. He will turn it in, it just takes time. He's probably just making sure he says as much positive stuff as he can about you.

It's kind of frustrating because I want to be approved to take the DoDMERB and all that USNA needs from me is the interview and the recommendations from my teachers. I'm guessing if they got the interview they would probably allow me to take the DoDMERB. I'm hoping he didn't forget about it.

I honestly couldn't tell you what triggers the medical exam. Some say you just need to be 50%+ done with your application, but I don't know that to be true. Don't stress. You'll be fine.

Why don't you call him or her? The BGO is really the only one who can address your concern. All we can do is guess why it's not in yet. That being said I agree with Dad that it's vacation season and the BGO is probably working hard before leaving to wrap things up, and again at the other end to catch back up (I'm talking about their day job).

The interview does not trigger a Medical. The deadline for a BGO to get an interview in is Jan 31. The admissions system does not consider your anxious wishes their crisis. You will wait a lot in the military so you might as well get used to it.

DS's BGO took over a month to submit his, between October and November (BGO didn't want to do the interview until well into October). DS called him a couple times to polite ask if he could please submit it, and he said he would upload it in a "day or two." All other elements of the application were done, so it was pretty anxiety-provoking. The interview itself was 3+ hours, so our nerves were shot! Since it's still very early in the process, and the BGO interview is not a prerequisite for DoDMERB, maybe just call your BGO and ask if there is anything else he needs from you to submit the write-up (a gentle nudge). If nothing else, USNA will eventually nudge him and tell him to submit it.

This is just one part of a long process and you may not hear anything until March or April. Hang in there, and best of luck.

@frenzymondo
You do not need BGO interview or the teacher recommendations to trigger a DoDMERB exam, my son got his letter at exactly your stage and without CFA. Be patient you will get it any day.

frenzymando,

I agree, the delay seems a bit beyond reasonable given how competitive the application process can be. Getting the package done early clearly seems to be an advantage.

One caveat to consider; if you were the first BGO interview, your particular Officer may be holding back to compare your interview to that of another.

I would still contact him ASAP by email first, to see if everything was OK with the interview because you have not seen the 'Event acknowledged in your Portal'.

Additional advice: Work on getting those LORs from teachers ASAP! Get them done before Classes start! Teachers have some time now before it gets crazy at School. LORs are critical, as they can are also used for the MOC-required Letters for the Nomination process.

As for the DoDMERB, if you have no anomalies with your health or health history, when they notify you to make appointments for the DoDMERB exams (Eye & Medical), the whole thing can be taken in two days. You can actually be deemed Qualified within an additional 2-3 days.

My Kid was deemed "Qualified" in less then a span of 6 days, from Exam date to "official" Qualified status on the DoDMERB Portal and then the NAVY Portal.

To me, that was lightning fast, considering all of the 'moving parts' involved in getting the Exams completed.

My BGO still hasn't submitted it and it's now been over 2 months. I emailed him about it about a week ago and he hasn't replied. Should I just keep waiting?

This may sound simple, but have you checked your portal to make sure that your BGO hasn't changed? My son's ALO changed and we noticed it when checking on the status of his portal.....

Thanks for the suggestion, I hadn't checked that. I just checked it and my BGO is still the same person that I did the interview with.

Send an incredibly polite and deferential email thanking him/her for their time and commitment. Let him/her know how enthused you are about your application to USNA. Then ask them if they require anything else from him/her to complete to interview. Finally, tell him/her you are excited to see the interview status show up on the admissions website so that you can turn your focus to the medical/cfa etc.

I wouldn't fret yet....not all records go to the Admissions Board in a perfect queue. Admissions frequently sends a non-completed interview submission list to the area coordinators and I believe the first delinquent list went out last week....Area coordinators should start hitting their BGOs up if that is the only item missing from the application (minus CFA/DODMERB).

The most important lesson I've learned here ... so far: Take the duty seriously, even though I'm a volunteer. There are specific guidelines for when the Interiew must be scheduled (within 30 days of the "triggers"), and when the write-up must be submitted to the Area Coordinator (within 7 days of the interview).

Just what is going on in this case is anybody's guess... could be the "system" in the admissions office??? But, should I be "approved" as a boot BGO (test results and background investigation pending), I'll do my best to be on time. I'll expect my applicants and candidates to do the same :)

50% of the application completed ... that's what gets you the medical... when you get it

Frenzy, have you been to the Dodmets site? DD never received an actual request to schedule an exam. She just went to Dodmets and put in her social and was able to schedule her exam. It was after three of her required items were complete.

I already got my DoDMERB exams completed. They sent me the stuff a few days after I started this thread. Right now I'm waiting for them to review my exams.

frenzy,

Do you have a nomination yet? Are you hoping for an LOA? Do you know when their 1st appointment board will meet at USNA?
~ USAFA does not meet until Oct., there are very, very few right now that have an appointment in hand, BUT the reason why is they had in hand an LOA and a nomination (usually Presidential at this time).

You can't get appointed until you have a nomination. You cannot be charged to that nomination source (MOC) until everyone on the slate has submitted their package.
~ I say this because if you are under the impression that once the file is complete, including the BGO and you meet the 1st board after you get a nomination that you will have an answer, than you are mis-informed. They don't call it Mass Mailing March for no reason.

I think you need to stay on top of it with maybe a polite email every 10 days stating I have checked onto my portal and it is stating this is missing, do you suggest I contact the RD at USNA to see if it is caught in the system? This allows them to see you are staying on top of it, but not placing blame on them. It keeps them in the loop and giving respect to them at the same time.
