Hello all,
I recieved a letter from USNA saying that I was very close to the admission standards for weight. Im 5'8" and about 127 pounds. Enclosed in the letter was a recommended workout routine. Should I be worried about losing the appointment because of my weight?
Some tips for weight. My son is 5' 10 1/2 and plays hockey plus is often dual rostered on two hockey teams. He had been getting sick easily (just common colds) and the dr thought he was not keeping up the weight and that was lowering his resistance. It turns out he was right. I work with nutritionists and the ones I work with gave me the following tips that really worked for my son. many seem silly and and insignificant but they added up.
It is important to keep up with your workouts when adding weight. Also be sure your cholesterol is ok-or talk to your dr.
General tips:
-eat before you drink at each meal
-no fast food or junk food-AT ALL. (No mcdonalds, no chips etc)
Breakfast:
-dense dry cereals like Quaker 100% natural-always whole milk-sprinkle on carnation instant breakfast.
-waffles with peanut butter, nutela and bananas
-Layer calories into scrambled eggs by making with half & half, cooking in butter, and adding cheese on top.
-make ahead breakfast 0custard cup with high cal yougart, granola, sliced bananas. make night before-ready for you in the morning.
Lunch:
-Sandwiches: for every sandwich add two more pieces of cheese-and add avacado-add a sliced egg too.
- Dense Rye/wheat bread better than white bread
-Egg salad & deviled egg
-Dip 2 slices of bread into egg and high calorie milk mixture, Add cheese slices to bread, Grill with lots of butter or margarine
Dinner:
-cook all meals with butter
-stay away from broth based soups (ieno chicken noddle-its a volumizer-fills up with less calories)
-red meat and pork better than chicken
snacks:
-stay far away from sodas!
-Im sure you know this already but the best after work out drink is actually chocolate milk (regardless of weight needs).
-Peanut butter-all the time!!! You cant have enough
-home made pudding with whole milk
-cheesecake
-Next to the area you do your homework have a BIG box of mixed nuts-always full and always easy access. Eat them constantly while doing homework.
-Mix approximately equal amounts of creamy peanut butter and powdered milk
together. Aim for dough-like consistency Sweeten with honey to taste and shape into balls to snack on
Drinks:
-high cal milk: Mix 3-oz. whole milk with 1-oz. half & half-flavor with chocolate for a high cal chocolate milk
-Mix 16-oz. whole milk with Carnation Instant Breakfast (This can also be prepared with the high calorie milk recipe from above.)
-ORANGE CREAMSICLE SHAKE:Mix orange juice and vanilla ice cream to desired taste and consistency
-eggnog
MOST IMPORTANT: Before bed:after you finished eating for the day (important that this is at the end of the day so it is not replacing a meal!!!) have a smoothy that includes highest fat yougart (yoplait custard style) frozen fruit (often more healthy than fresh), whole milk and
Whey!!
