Hello guys,

I am filling up my AFA Admission stuff, and I am currently on the "Candidate Activities Record" portion of the process. Obviously, this is very important and I wanted to know what to fill up. There are activities with the term "Sanctioned Event" on them and then there are activities that say "All State/District/City or County(1st Team Only)
(Explain in Resume)
"

If I played basketball recreationally and also for my church, where could I put that?

Also there is a row for 12th grade activities. As an upcoming senior, do i check the activities I forsee myself doing? I will be the president of my Beta Club chapter at my school, so I would want to put that there.

So, recreational basketball: you play pick up games down at the park on Saturday? Is it a league? Is it a competitive league? Is it a traveling club? Do you "try out" or pay to play?

You play basketball for your church? All the questions above apply.

Yes, any activity you anticipate, this Beta Club, glee club, art squad, deck hockey, whatever - goes there.

JMPO, but I would not place BBall played at church or recreational under any EC.
~ Caveat: The way your rec. BBall sounds like in your post is playing at the Y, not a league where you must compete to get a spot on the league.

I am with fencer regarding if you know right now that you will be President, than you check that off.

It all depends on the league. CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) basketball in our area is very competitive and many of the area varsity basketball players play in that league rather than the club leagues during the off-season. Each Parish sponsors a team. So, depending on the level of play where the OP is, it could be something to note. Of course, it would be up to the OP to make sure that the level of play is emphasized if he uses it.

I agree Stealth.

The problem with forums like this is, we all use our own anecdotal experiences to create our opinion. The Catholic Churches that we have belonged to were never like what you have stated. It was more like CYO meets on Wednesday night and plays BBall against the other churches in the area.

This is something the OP needs to decide regarding the level of play. How does he see it when he compares it to ALL State/District/County?
~ If his answer is I don't travel, and we practice 1x a week, than I would say this does not go on the EC athletics. I see it as being a parish member that enjoys interacting within their community.

We try out for the teams. Most everyone with decent skill makes it, not too competitive or anything like that. I am kind of short on activities other than weight lifting and powerlifting at school, so I was hoping there was some way I could squeeze that in to make me more competitive

I tell candidates, regarding teams that aren't school related, to view them this way: "Is there a league, do you compete for positions, are their games/matches scheduled on a regular basis" if so, it most likely is what we are looking for and you should list it. Also explain this to the ALO in detail so they may comment on it during their evaluation.
If the "sport" is a "pickup" thing: "After church, there's usually a group that gets together and plays every week..." that's probably NOT an EC sport.

When in doubt, there are two outstanding sources to consult: your ALO and your USAFA counselor!!
