Where are you from? That can play a role. Your chances may be better from Wyoming than they are from NY.
It was a different time, but your stats are better than mine were.

It also took me three tries to get in. Still not sure if there were secret "determination points" or it was a clerical error.
I was talking to my neighbor's son who was interested in becoming a Navy Pilot, I told him to move to North Dakota and apply to KP.
Why do you figure its good to go to KP to be a Navy Pilot?

Not that it's particularly good or bad, just probably easier to get a flight slot from KP than from USNA if you are not particularly academically inclined.
If your neighbor's son has to move his state of residence to be admitted to KP, he probably doesn't need to be at KP.
Not in response to Mr2020, but in the interest of others who are reading and researching--statistically it has been indicated that Navy flight out of KP is better than out of USNA. Numbers vs. slots. I don't know if that is the right reason to choose KP over USNA, but, it is what it is.Why do you figure its good to go to KP to be a Navy Pilot?

Its a joke, with some truth to it. If you meet minimums, and are the only applicant from the state, you have a heck of a better shot at getting an appointment than if you just meet minimums and are from a highly competitive state. If your neighbor's son has to move his state of residence to be admitted to KP, he probably doesn't need to be at KP.
It was clearly a joke. Can you just go ahead and get banned again already?
Mass. Haven’t seen anyone in Mass but not everyone comes hereWhere are you from? That can play a role. Your chances may be better from Wyoming than they are from NY.

SATs need much work. I see nothing on leadership or athletics which are two critical elements. Of course there is some reason(s) that you got two noms so I would never rule out an appointment.GPA 3.12

Three tries to get in, three tries to get out ... they call me alumni, same as the valedictorian.I was pretty sure that I got in on a clerical error. . . my numbers were decent, but not great. . . but I managed to make it through, in spite of a few instances of making it very difficult for myself. . .
We are from Oregon- does anyone know if this is a competitive state? My DS is double nomination, self-prepping at MMI, ranked #1 in his class in HS, but his SAT combined was only 1210. No AP classes cuz we are in a teeny tiny school, but tons of leadership/volunteer and sports. We are very hopeful for this or USAFA.

Peppypea,
I have been following your posts about self-prepping at MMI. My DS is considering self-prepping at MMI if he is rejected from ROTC programs and academies. He's been awarded scholarships to several colleges and he's currently interested in MMI. How does you DS like the school and campus? Is he finding the program beneficial? I assume he is in the SAP program. How does it work? We are visiting the campus in the near future to take a tour and meet with admissions. DS is hoping we have to cancel due to an appointment but it is one of 3 schools in contention as Plan B. Thank you in advance for any info you are willing to provide.
Thank you for your insight. How many kids are in the SAP program who are self-prep? Have any of those kids been appointed? We have been trying to decide if the SAP program is equal/better/worse then attending a college closer to home that also offered scholarship money. I think the structure of MMI would be very beneficial to DS. The whole process is a little overwhelming but I'm not from a military family.
If your DS is not appointed (I assume he will) will he attend MMI another year? Just curious.
Thanks again!

My DS was rejected out of high school from both KP and Coast Guard and self prepped last year. High school SAT 530 r 590 m.Went to MMI and got 3.53 1st semester and 3.8 2nd semester took SAT twice more bringing scores to 600 r 610 m. He was wait listed from both schools but ultimately rejected again, but he knew he was close. He decided to return and self prep again and this year applied to all SA. He has one appointment offer, waiting to hear about two more before deciding. MMI is great, they looked at his weaknesses and put him in classes to most likely to help achieve his goals. The faculty and administrators have real relationships with senior admissions staff at all of the SA's. Last year 9/15 self preppers got appointments to USCGA .Thank you for your insight.
