Chances I get an army rotc scholarship?

I agree with Sheriff.

If the USMA deems you competitive and sends you to a doc., this summer/early fall, you will be able to check off a box.

If it comes back bad, than you have time on your side.

My DS2 was also a FB player, and in his jr. yr he took a hit. Concussion. It was placed on his medical records. He didn't go the military route like our DS1, but if he did, that would have been placed on his paperwork for his exam, and that could have started a remedial or DQ.

FB players are harden too injuries, but it is part of this process. Concussion might seem like nothing to you, but it is something to DoDMERB.

What you think is no big deal medically, can be a big deal to the military.

Seriously, if I had a dollar for every poster in the past 5 yrs that has said:
~~~ I was diagnosed with asthma, but never used the inhaler and play XYZ sports; got a remedial/DQ.
~~~~~~I would be able to take a 3 day weekend in Bermuda!

If I could add that with color deficiency remedial/DQs, and I would be there for a week, food, booze included!

Additionally, even though you are a FB player, the CFA/PFA can be a factor. They never post the mins, only the maxs.

What is your run time? CFA Max is 5:30 mi/mile (I think)

How many pullups can you do?
CFA max for AF is 18

Shuttle run?
Sit ups?
Push ups?

PFA does not do BBall throw. Max for that on the CFA is 100.

Bust one portion, and you bust the entire test!!!!

The point is PAR is only a part of your score. They want the best WHOLE CANDIDATE. A FB player can be fit, but that doesn't mean they won't bust a part of the PFT.

Sooners96,

Remember there is a difference between applying to WP and the AROTC Scholarship.

All you will do for the AROTC Scholarship is the PFT, 1 min. PU's, 1 min. SU's and a 1 mile run. There is no "Busting" the PFT. You do the best you can and you receive a score, there is no minimum or maximum, however you will want to do your best.

The events mentioned above are for the West Point Application only, if you happen to "Bust" one of those that are not included in the AROTC Scholarship PFT, don't worry, it won't hurt you as far as your scholarship application goes, it will hurt you in regard to a West Point appointment.

Sooners96 -- assuming you're still following this thread:

Your three academic targets -- VT, Oklahoma, and USMA are all unsure bets.

-VT because the competition for AROTC scholarships there is more intense than at almost any other college. Also for VT, you look good to go academically, but you can never be sure.

-OK, because though you are 99% to get in, you're not sure you'd get in-state tuition, and

-USMA b/c, assuming you need a MOC nom from NoVA, it is hyper competitive and the oods are higher you don't get an Appointment than you do get one.

Therefore, I recommend you do take seriously the task of looking for a fourth, fifth, and sixth college option in case all three of your primary targets come up empty.

Thank you everyone for your responses, sorry I haven't posted here in a while; I had stopped getting email notifications and had assumed no one was still posting. In regard to school selections, I really don't like it here in Virginia, there's just something about it I can't stand. I really want to get out and explore the rest of the country. I used to travel the world up until about 6 years ago when we stopped moving, and I have an uncontrollable urge to just move somewhere. Is it really that hard to get out of state scholarships? What are the biggest reasons they are harder to get? Money mainly right? Are there loopholes around that?

You're required to list an in-state school anyway, so list one. If it were me, I could delay my desire to travel the world for a few years, recognizing I'd probably get to see a lot more of the world once I graduate and commission.

I don't believe that AROTC requires an In State school be listed on the application. May have changed.

I believe you are correct UNLESS they changed the rules this year.

From what I remember filling out my application, you needed to list 5 schools minimum and up to 7 or 8 schools max.

In the event that you ONLY list 5 schools .. I think 2 of them had to be public and the remaining 3 could be private.
