Chatter, Congrats & Questions 2026 USCGA Appointment Thread

So I just got a text and a pic from my parents...BFE has arrived. US Priority mail.
So my BFE basically has a very nice appointment folder, instructions on how to accept or decline, confirmation that reporting day is 6/27/22, and directions that you must apply for a passport. Those are the items I thought people need to know who are awaiting the BFE, some other travel stuff, but those are the big items.

Good to know - I hear there is a back log on passports

Am I correct to assume the BFE will not be sent until the DodMerb is completed and found satisfactory?
At least for the class of 2024, as long as you clicked the button saying you were still interested, you still would receive the BFE even if you had a conditional appointment. There is a lot of paperwork for you to fill out and other information in the packet, and some waivers take a long time to be granted. USCGA wants you to be ready if/when your waiver is granted. I'm not sure if the answer is different if you haven't even completed the DODMERB physical and eye exam.

My son is class of 2025. He did not get his BFE until he got a waiver from his DODMRB DQ from the admiral of the Coast Guard in mid May.....

Based on previous years' numbers, we have about two more day (including today) for appointments to roll in. After that, the vast majority of notifications will be appointments to prep, wait lists, deferrals to RA, and rejections. Hope for the best, brace for the worst.

Question for you. What is the difference between wait lists and deferrals to RA? Am I correct in thinking that wait list would mean an appointment if a spot opens and deferrals to RA puts you back in the mix to compete with the RA applications? Thank you for any info you can provide.

Anyone's DS or DD apply EA and not hear a decision and have their Bear's Den (I am not sure of the specific wording) basically showing that their application has still not been reviewed yet? Not sure if normal or a cause for concern. Application was in by 10/12 and did a formal visit 'Bears Day' on 10/15.

My DS submitted early October for EA and it shows application submitted but not reviewed (he did get a confirmation email once all steps were completed) - he also did a bears day in September and has been talking with coach and visited with team and still no word yet. Coach says he will let him know as soon as he does. My DS is well qualified(academics and service and athletics) in all areas and is also applying to other academies but CGA is his number one.

Thanks! Not just DS then so I feel a little better...
DS got the confirmation email as well back before deadline. I just think it's odd that this late in the EA period there are Apps not reviewed. Sounds like they are similar profiles.

Agree. I also feel like the rolling admissions up to dec 23rd is challenging emotionally - but I guess its just the process.

Same here. DS didn’t finish his app till last day of EA. Is well qualified and has been recruited by coach. He got an LOA for USMMA, but USCGA is first choice. Fingers crossed here as well!

I applied for EA last year and this year, and both times the 'CCEB review complete' box was not updated until I received a decision (last year I was deferred to RA on Dec 21st).

Basically, Yes. There will be separate waitlists for both direct appointments and prep school. There will be many more spots on the waitlists than openings to fill. CGA will pick and choose off the waitlist to round out their class in the way they deem best.

The CCEB box in bears den isn’t necessarily updated when the file is reviewed. See @BravoRomeo’s post. Pay it no mind. You will have a decision by the 23rd.

I do not believe that anyone from EA is put directly on the waitlist. Several years ago, I think that may have been true, but in the past few years, I believe the options for EA are acceptance (possibly conditional on medical), denied, prep school, or rolled into Regular Admissions pool.

If an applicant is pushed to regular admission, anyone know what are the percentages that they will get in?

I guess about 22.4% were offered appointments, and about 13.7% accepted appointments. The stats do not differentiate between EA and RA.

according to the stats posted on this forum indicated the following for last year (class of 2025):

2070 completed applications
465 offered appointments
285 US applicants accepted appointments
114 women
171 men
42 states and citizens living elsewhere

103 underrepresented ethnicities

average gpa 3.79 unweighted

57 cgas
151 recruited athletes
17 rated performing artists
143 attended AIM
1prior enlisted

intended STEM major 229
