the email came to ds yesterday to "order" sizes for tshirts, pants, etc. for NASS. they are listed as unisex sizes.

If you went to NASS last year, can you please tell us if the sweat pants and shorts have working drawstrings? in one of the recent NASS youtube videos, you can see the kids holding up their sweatpants when they jump so their pants don't fall down. they also go in the ocean with the shorts on - so ds thinks it would be great to get this sizing "right", lol! he is very tall and slim - wondering if size small would work best for his waist.

thanks

Hmm. Odd. I don't remember that email from last year when DS was heading to Summer Seminar. I do remember when DS reported for Summer Seminar in Dahlgren Hall. They had long tables along the windows on the upper deck, and each table had a box of shirts, sweatpants, etc. The candidates filed past each box and took one of each item in the right size. Maybe they've changed the drill.

I. Went last year, I got a small and they were still huge. They do have a draw string, but we didn't mess with it that much because they are just soaked which makes them heavy anyway. NASS is a fantastic week, just go don't worry about anything and your guaranteed to have a blast!

My DS went last year and I do recall him putting a size on some form, but when he got there, they just did the box thing one by one as stated above. I think he ended up with all mediums and the shirts fit him well, but the sweats were kind of wide and loose, the drawstring was a life saver!

Last year I had all larges which fit pretty well. But your sweatpants are going to get wet and sandy so they will be falling down no matter what. Putting the draw strings around my neck worked pretty well.

I am a female, and totally did not consider that the sizes would be unisex. Lucked out with being towards the end, so I was able to change some sizes last minute. I got small sweatpants which fit perfectly at NASS. When I got home, they shrunk tremendously. So consider whether the fit at NASS, or at home, is preferred :) Also, the dry fits are awesome, and are quite roomy.

Just want to make a quick point: last year they had us PT in the severn.

Bring a pair of sneakers you can afford to lose. They also make you do it in the sweatpants for safety, and those things get nasty. I still pull sand from the pockets when I wash them.

Excellent point on the shoes! My DS is a runner and took his Brooks that were not cheap! Destroyed! Now they are yard work shoes! Something comfortable, broken in and willing to destroy!

And with all the mud that your clothes will acquire from sea trials...bring a trash bag or two to bring them home in.

they give you so much stuff to take home that I had to leave some of my clothes there to fit them in my suitcase. You wear about nothing of your own clothes, bring a big empty suitcase.

So, from experience, how much of your own clothes should you take, and what are they? Looks like you get 5 tshirts (I assume for PT), but in some YouTube videos they look like they are wearing matching polos and your own khakis.

DS also has orders to raid the gift shop, so there's no sense in him taking more than he needs.

Thank you!

My DS got no time in the gift shop. They are so busy the entire time. They will all come home with a trash bag full of their muddy dirty clothing. Last year our son flew up there and then my husband and I drove up to pick him up and spend a day or so in Annapolis. The car smelled horrible after his clothes were in the trunk!!

My squad leader was able to take me to the mid store after the week was over. This is not a common occurrence though.

but if the pants and shorts are unisex, does my son not have to worry about length ? especially of the pants? he can't decide if he'd rather get a small for a 29-30" waist and have them highwaters at NASS, or get a med or large for some length and be holding them up all the time at NASS!

Just to repeat, if you are worried about fit, report early. DS was in line when the doors to Dahlgren opened. He had his pick of sizes. But not a lot of time to decide. It's not like shopping. You are expected to move expeditiously through the line.

maybe things changed this year, but last I heard it wasnt a fashion show or a trip to the mall.
