Need some advice/help please. DS received an email offering him a Civil Prep option. The email explained he would be removed from the NWL. Can anyone shed some light as to what this means and the upside/downside of this? Thanks all and good luck to all those who are still waiting!
Congratulations to your DS!
That is great news!
Basically, candidates who are offered this are QNS with a nom, usually with strong leadership.
The AOG will pay for 1/3 of the costs to go to one of 5 Civil Prep schools ( MMI, Valley Forge, NMMI, Hargrave and Greystone) for one year and then reapply. The school pays 1/3 and the candidate pays for 1/3.
Only about 50 are offered/yr (think of it as 1 per state) and are offered to either scholar/leaders or recruited athletes (recruited athletes go to a sports specific school)
Here is a link that describes the program:

Your DS must be viewed as highly desirable candidate but for whatever reason (very competitive district?) , WP was not be able to offer him a spot in this year's class.
This is pretty much the next best thing.
BIG NICK --Do most of prep school candidates % wise, get into West Point. And if prep school is higher, then do they have a better chance to get in then a MAPS candidate ?
Read GoArmyBeatNavy's post above. (#2)
I wouldn't consider AOG CP higher than USMAPS. Both programs serve different purposes. They aren't interchangeable.
Those offered the AOG CP route are not qualified to go to USMAPS because they are academically qualified.
Those offered USMAPS are not qualified for the AOG CP scholarship because they are not academically qualified.
USMAPS = not academically qualified
AOG CP = 3Q'd + nom, but QNS
DS also received his letter last week offering the AoG civil prep. He did accept the offer and chose Marion..... Marion was his choice for several reasons. One being location to home and second being finances. The school also has a 100% advancement rate to West point. Of the 50 civil prep students this past year 22 of them were at MMI.....
Congrats to your DS too, WienerDog!
Just to be clear - the statement bolded is a stat for those who are there on the AOG scholarship (sponsored).
This stat is not true for those who go non-sponosred.
