Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Interesting to know how many recruited athletes there are. Too bad American's don't value soccer like European's do. (Soccer is our sport - LOVE soccer).

To my math that means it leaves 1050-260 = 790 slots

of those 790 left there are approx 535 from MOC leaving = 255 from national pool?

Out of say 5350 (if each MOC nom's 10) and 790 have an appt - there are 4560 in the Nat'l pool - hoping for one of 255 appt left?

Like I said - too much time on my hands... Ugh.

I'd love to hear your theories...

Don't forget about the 100 Presidential appointees, or the LEAD applicants. Didn't mean to make it sound worse, just realistic.

My heart goes out to you.

Thanks and to top it off DS decided to come home today for break from college and say he wants to request a major change with AROTC from a tech major to a non tech...we are hoping he doesn't lose his scholarship.....good luck everyone!

MStan, good luck to your DD. We were from Reading (actually Exeter) and we moved to Kalamazoo, MI in 2004. We know exactly where West Lawn is having lived in that area all our lives. Our son is a 2 degree (Junior), aero major, and an instructor pilot in the soaring program. We can't believe how fast the time is going and in a few months he will be a Senior. Again, best of luck. Good to see someone from 'back home.'

Definitely don't assume 10 noms per MOC per slot. As I posted on an earlier thread, our MOC alone (due to happenstance) may have 20-25 noms to add to the national pool. It's been posted many times that many MOCs simply don't have the qualified candidates / applicants to fill their slates. Don't think too hard, it'll drive you crazy.

It is a small world, Haleym. Good luck - hang in there. We will keep rooting for you!

Don't forget about the 100 Presidential appointees, or the LEAD applicants. Didn't mean to make it sound worse, just realistic.
If all 100 Presidentials are used, and all 170 LEAD slots are filled, that would make 270 total, 15 more than the 255 you are worried about. But CristalLee, you are taking the 250 or so appointments (that we think have already gone out) out of the equation without accounting for their nominations. Some of the Presidentials and some of the 535 MOC nominations have been used up already....... I would guess that a significant number of the appointments already sent out can be subtracted from the available nominations. Not sure how the recruited athletes square up against the available nomination sources......... however, that still leaves a similar number for the national pool. Looks like we arrived at the same figure in different ways. I don't know if there are 4,000+ candidates vying for those few hundred national pool slots, however. I suspect the number of those actually qualified, is smaller.

Ok... DH just called and looks like there is a TWE awaiting our DS on the countertop. At least he got a QNS letter last year so its dissapointing but DS has a 4 years scholarship for Army and is doing well at school... hope everyone else has better luck in todays mail!
Was it a TWE with a QNS inside? I was wondering if it might be a letter requesting more information?

I am just surprised that any TWEs have been sent out "so early" in the cycle. This is the first one I can remember hearing about. If it is a QNS, would not that mean that they are really a lot further along in the selection process than we think they are?

I feel for you if this is true, truly, but please confirm for us that the TWE contained a QNS. I am just a little shocked to hear this so early in the game.

What does QNS stand for? I know that QNV stands for Qualified, no vacancy. Oh, and don't forget to count in the prep school appointments as well....

3/5/12 - (Naval Academy)

"Dean Latta, the dean of admissions, noted a significant increase in the number of students who already have indicated they will attend. The academy has offered admission to 1,021 students, and 369 students already have accepted. That compares to 268 students last year. For female students, 101 have said they will attend, compared to 60 at this time last year. Among minority students, 102 indicated they will attend, compared to 71 last year."

I know I said I was stepping back - unfortunately that just lead me to snoop around the internet for other tidbits... (SMH)

All - your support means everything to me (the private messages too). I just need to occupy myself with other stuff - rather than obsessing... Like check maybe once a day instead of several times a day - i'm proud of myself staying away for almost 24 hours... and I took the bookmark off my browser, just too tempting to tap that button and take a look.

So having said all that - what do you all think about that Naval Academy article?
CristalLee,

this does not surprise me at all. I would suspect that a similarly higher ratio of AFA offers of appointment will be accepted this year as opposed to previous years......

Yes, don't forget the Prep appointments! Good call! Of the 240 at the Prep School, there are probably fewer than 200 still there, but a very high percentage of them get selected. I believe that, except for the 50 Prior Enlisted Preppies, all the Prep appointments will need a nomination, however. Someone PLEASE correct me if I am wrong about this.

My DD came home today to find an acceptance letter from SUNY Maritime (New York). Although that is good news, she is not counting it towards the fortune cookie message because she doesn't consider NY to be far away enough and the message didn't specify today. LOL
Hang on to that fortune cookie slip of paper. You can frame it along with a copy of her Offer of Appointment!

(just a little bit of Positive Conceptual Visualization for you)

OMG... I posted on AFA and not USMA... His TWE was from USMA NOT AFA... DS hasn't heard back from AFA. Sorry about the confusion.... DS has heard nothing since early December when he got a post card saying he rec'd a nomination and his packet was complete... DS got a QNS last year from both schools but tanked a college class and is retaking it that we are sure has led to his demise in USMA eyes when he had to report his grades..... All things happen for a reason and has learned a valuable lesson... Fingers are crossed for AFA...

ok that makes MUCH more sense! USMA is much further along in the process than the AFA. I am sorry to hear about the QNS from USMA. Hang in there!

So as Prep School Grads get appointments to USAFA, they'll be replaced by another 200 (or so?) candidates who'll be selected for the USAFA Prep School? Seems logical, and it should equal itself out.

I didn't know any stats about Prep School. Are there 240 accepted (including prior service) each year to the Prep School?

I believe there are 240 slots at the AFA Prep School, 50 of which are allowed for LEAD applicants (enlisted). I understand, however, that last year (Prep Class of 2012) was the first year that they filled all 50 LEAD slots. This means there are approximately 190 slots available to other applicants each year.
