Class of 2021 USNA Appointment Thread

So, this is our second year playing the waiting game. While we have been addicted to the forums, I never post anything. Today I realized that, as much as I crave hearing others' stories, someone might also be interested in ours. DS was not awarded an appointment last year, and immediately decided he would reapply, and go to a prep school as a self-prepper, where I'm proud to say he excelled. His application, test scores, CFA, extracurriculars, etc., seem to "check all the boxes." However, yesterday (3-15) he was turned down by USNA. His BGO was even surprised, thinking that DS was "a lock." He applied to all of the Academies, so our waiting game is not over, still. However, I share this tidbit of our story, because I know that at this point in the game, everyone is highly qualified, and for many (maybe even for most), it still doesn't work out. My takeaway is that we are all in great company! Whether accepted or not, we should all be proud, aim high, think big...and play the waiting game.
Thank you for sharing! Sorry to hear of the disappointing news, but as you state, there are so many highly qualified students that it gives me great hope for the future of our service. best of luck while waiting on the others!

Praying your Son ends up in a happy place

Curious if any who have received appointments, also applied for an NROTC scholarship (and how that went). DS received an "ineligible" letter from the NROTC board, with no explanation (he met all the requirements, incl medical and passing is PT test). His PoC said the only time that happens is when a student has been picked up for another ROTC scholarship or an academy. He did not pursue other ROTC options and we still wait for word on USNA.
I applied for NROTC and was awarded one in October. I needed a color deficiency waiver that did not get approved by NROTC (was given one by USNA), so I later became ineligible for the NROTC scholarship.

So sorry

Ouch! Hope Annapolis worked out. I did find out that the recruiters failed to upload his docs before the 31 Jan deadline (and yes, he had everything, including the PT test done well in advance). No recourse other than wait until next year. So, we await word from admissions and hope the NROTC screw up is a non-issue.

I am not familiar with ROTC applications. Is there a way for the forum visitors to check and verify their status to prevent an error like this to happen to them?

In my DS' case, the recruiters had to upload everything and was told "don't worry about the status, you are good to go". My advice would be this: IF something doesn't look right and your local contact isn't clearing it up, then go higher. My DS tried to get the recruiters' CO, but couldn't get a return call or email. I had to go all the way to HQ to get anyone's attention.

This sounds very familiar to last years experience or DS. He was waitlisted at USNA and "lost in the shuffle" for NROTC. Hearing that this has happened to several on this forum, there are probably many other cases like this out there. I agree with ktnatalk that something should be done so folks can check to follow up before its too late. We weren't as lucky to get to the top like 60Pilot. But at least still CPR for round two...

If that's true, the recruiters (those involved) need to be marked down on their next performance report. That kind of unprofessional behavior is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.

Because of their mistake, this young man who was fully qualified missed out on a possible scholarship.

Wow! This is not even my DS and I'm enraged. If I was his parent, I'd be in contact with the recruiter' chain of command.

It's happened several times to candidates on this forum, which is a relatively small portion of candidates. So my guess is this is a systemic problem for the NROTC program

Thank so for the update. Since my question we received notification he was not accepted to USNA, but was accepted to the USAFA. A little disappointed but we're moving on as USAFA isn't such a bad second choice. Good luck to everyone else still in the hunt.

We are brand new to this forum and appreciate any words of wisdom or information. Our DS is also qualified and has not heard or been seen by NROTC or USNA. He has a 760 in math and qualified physically & academically by USMA. However, other than asking for a DODMERB response for our DS doctor, we are hearing nothing. Has anyone seen or heard of any appointments/LOA/BFE or TWE for Nevada, other than 1 who declined, from CD-4?
Thanks in advance
