I also think the DIY reporting of LOA’s is a little deceptive: DS TECHNICALLY received an LOA (for less than a week), bc they required that he complete a body fat test form (so he held a conditional offer of appointment, or LOA, for less than a week). I hesitated to report it LOA, as to me that is something received much earlier in the process...getting it pending receipt of a form so late in the process (academic and DoDMRB qualified and then receiving a principal nom), for less than a week doesn’t really fit the spirit of what an LOA indicates to me. I do understand....but for purposes of the DIY reporting for usna, I think it skews the type of thing a statistician would be gathering to look at as far as LOA’s.

Additionally, along this same line of thinking, usafa does that form early on. So that would indicate that in DS’s instance, having already completed the body fat test, he would not have received the interim LOA for a week step. DS would have gone directly to an appointment offer (having already completed the body fat test as part of his initial, complete candidate packet).

IT is repeatedly said that LOAs are rare - and are obviously NOT the goal. It would also mean - if this data can be extrapolated - that we are running a bit behind the past two years on reporting, but - once again IF this data is representative - we should be somewhere around 35% to 45% percent through the appointment release. The other 60% will be releasing in February and March.

Now for my Big Question.... Do you BGOs and Moderators feel that this data is representative - or is there a potential bias that those with LOAs are more involved in this forum thatn other candidates? Are they more likely to report? Or is there an increasing trend in the use of LOAs by Navy?

Very interesting statistics, NAVYCAPT93. I love playing with numbers and looking for trends. I also did some comparisons and found that interestingly enough, self-reporting is a very good representation of the total, especially by state and congressional district count in each state. California and Texas for example has the highest number of appointments and some states not represented at all- maybe people from those states are not that interested in the academy and it a good place to move for one wants to increase their chances to be appointed. None from Montana or North Dakota for the last 3 years reporting. jk about moving btw.

Taking in consideration few assumptions: majority of appointments before end of January are going to the LOA recipients and Presidential nominees, the self-reporting decreased significantly compared to what was reported in the past two years, I make the conclusion (IMHO) that either less appointments were made this year up to today’s date or less people reported the appointments on this thread making LOA recipients list look bigger using percentages. So, basically, no, LOAs didn't increase this year.
 
My Plebe was #49 last year - I believe he received his around 1/9 or 1/10 last year.

I'm following USMA and USAFA too - I'm just waiting to see when our state is represented.

So good to see. As rejections start in the nearby future, please consider starting a thread about your best practices and lessons learned as a college re-applicant. It will provide a ray of hope to those who have seldom failed at anything, yet find themselves with a TWE in hand, and perhaps in a bit of panic because they don’t have a Plan B.

So good to see. As rejections start in the nearby future, please consider starting a thread about your best practices and lessons learned as a college re-applicant. It will provide a ray of hope to those who have seldom failed at anything, yet find themselves with a TWE in hand, and perhaps in a bit of panic because they don’t have a Plan B.
