My DS (also on HOLD NWL) was recruited for football at the beginning of his junior season and later also for Lacrosse (he also plays basketball). DS was sent e-mails from the coaches and later had telephone conversations them; invited to visit which he did and afterwards really loved everything about the Academy. It became his #1 choice of the academies, universities and colleges recruiting him for sports and academics. I might add he was already interested in engineering and physics and other sciences from the start and liked USMMA’s combination of classroom and hands on training (sea year). Additionally, he wanted to serve his country (a history of it in our family) so a perfect match. To date he continues to communicate with the coaches. But I might add I don't know how much additional pull the coaches actually have with admissions selections process. In the end I believe it’s your test scores, GPA, class ranking, leadership and volunteer activities. Maybe you get some extra points being a recruited athlete, but I’m not sure. USMMA is a DIV III school as you know and not DIV I as the DOD academies. DS is still hopeful we will hear some good news soon. He is 3Q, three nominations and was medically cleared within a couple of weeks with no issues/DQ. He did have to do a BCA tape measurement since his weight exceeded the height/weight requirements because of his muscle mass, but passed the BCA without issue. He does have his plan B in place. The waiting is tough on our DS/DD, but also on us parents.
