Class of 23 & 24 Shotgunning

he is much more concerned about his Physics 2 final he will be taking shortly.
One thing that is common with normal colleges... my 3C MIDN got a "C" for Physics first semester...had an Officer teach Physics 2nd semester and just earned an "A". Different Professors can make a huge difference. It wasn't that the second Prof. was easy...not at all...it was that he is able to engage ... and being a Pilot doesn't hurt either. Physics 2 Final was difficult according to DS...

Our daughter’s last spring final was yesterday, so I drove early this morning to Gate-1 to bring her home to spend a long weekend here at home. We’ll drive her back early Sunday morning. All next week they have training on the Yard I think, then she said something about Herndon at the end of the week.

She said they have to clear out their Rooms for the Summer. I told her that can’t be right. I told her to leave it there or move it over to her new room since she is shotgunned from Company 22 to 15 .... I told her to just move all her stuff over to her new room ... end of story I hope.

If she is right, this doesn’t make any sense ... Granted, we are relatively close being only 85 miles from Bancroft. But it is still a PITA to have to haul everything here then take it all back again when she occupies her Company 15 room.

I am confused ... next week they are in Training, then she leaves on a 2/3 week Boat Cruise of some kind - you can tell I am not Military at all — then in June some time they fly her out to San Diego for 2/3 weeks. Bancroft is basically going to be empty of students.

Someone please explain this Crazy Logic to me?

Rooms are used throughout the summer for different reasons. Roughly half of Bancroft will be used for Plebe Summer so THOSE rooms need top be empty so the plebes can be in them. Other areas of Bancroft will have mids in Summer School, Mids in other training, Athletic Teams who are in the yard for athletic reasons and other mids for a variety of missions/things.

EVERYONE MOVES OUT OF THEIR ROOMS. That said, not everyone gets mom or dad to come and help. Many/most do it with friends, peers or themselves and move into basement lockers or other storage which can include sponsors. FWIW, I never had my parents help me with my summer moveout and used a basement locker in Bancroft for most of my stuff. My son never asked for help from us on this and frankly, I don't have any idea where he kept his stuff when he was a mid. We lived about 3 and a half hours away and could have helped if asked but it never came up.

It seems the companies have permanent homes on certain decks/wings. Is there a reason for that, vs randomly assigning each August? Do companies ever change locations?
Companies generally do not change locations. Some rooms on the outskirts of company areas might change from time to time but the core of the company areas which include company wardrooms (can be valuable) and the Company Officer's Offices do not change.

1st regiment, 2nd battalion, 8th company to 2nd regiment, 6th battalion, 26th company. Pretty much as far away from his first company as possible  . Currently, he is much more concerned about his Physics 2 final he will be taking shortly.
my mid just left the 26th and the 8th wing. He loved his company and leadership. Hopefully yours loves it as well.

As a BattO, I had to move out of my office every summer and move to another BattO’s office for my summer job. Ditto for company officers and senior enlisted. The Brigade dissolves on graduation afternoon. Mids are all promoted up a class. Ac year organizational structure shifts to summer training mode. At the end of the summer, “Reform” of the Brigade is exactly that, marking the transition from summer mode back to all companies and staff back in their normal locations and roles. One year we even had BGOs there for some training session, but some alcohol-related misconduct occurred (😬), and the Dant made it clear to the Dean of Admissions that was not going to happen again. One summer I was the NASP Officer, the BattO in charge of Bancroft and coordination among the various resident programs. The place is way busier than you would think, but different than the ac year with the entire Brigade there.

Bancroft Hall is cleared down and re-populated with NASS, NAAA sports camps, STEM camps, Yard-based summer training residents, Plebe Summer detailers and new plebe class, summer school the entire summer, and transient rooms for those needing a place to stay in between blocks or awaiting separation.

Mids store their stuff in shared storage lockers in town, at generous sponsors’ houses, in lockers at school when available, call upon family to rescue them or figure it out somehow. They always do.
@Dr. Strange Love Welcome to the military. Let your DD figure it out. It’s good training for all the logistics she’ll have to solve with every set of military orders. She’s got plenty of upperclass to advise her on how to do this.

You’re correct. It’s a PITA! So don’t do it. We live 2,000 miles away. It never crossed our minds to help DD with this — even had we lived just down the road. They figure it out. Like just about everything else.

Rumor has it, there is also storage in the ceilings 😂😂...hoping my plebe can retrieve his white works since they are stuck in the ISO wing ceiling ATM. He doesn’t want them, but I do.

Also a good reminder to purchase renters insurance, if they haven’t yet...boy oh boy the MESS they came back to last reform. Remember?

I hear you ! I moved my daughters into college, and out of college.....I didn't do any Summer moves . (It didn't help that they were both on the East Coast and I am in flyover land).

Dr Strangelove ..Count your blessings, you don't have the typical college load to deal with. My daughters moved half of their rooms to college. Midshipman can get by with a few duffelbags and boxes, (and if lucky, a few boxes in the bowels of Bancroft Hall. The funniest thing I ever saw was right after Reform as a Plebe, a bunch of 3rd Class came barreling into our room....we expected the worst, but they essentially ignored us, and proceeded to climb up on the upper Rack and pulled a whole pile of things out from the drop ceiling. Rumor has it that practice ended when a whole ceiling collapsed.

All BGO's go through a 3-4 day initial training program at USNA during the Summer within the first 2 years of becoming a BGO. My initial training was 16 years ago , and we stayed in the 'Hall. (In fact, I stayed in one of my Plebe Year rooms -- 5029! To top it off, I roomed with two Classmates, one a Companymate and other I went to NAPS with). I am pretty sure BGO's still stay in the Hall during the initial training, although it was cancelled last summer and virtual this year. Alcohol related misconduct, say it isn't so .... a bunch of old grads going out into town each night, what could go wrong ? I will admit , the thought of climbing in and out of the upper racks did chill the consumption a bit.

More importantly....How's the wardroom? Hopefully well stocked lol. Really good to hear that he loved his leadership. Sad that he had to leave.

We’re in town this weekend and helping Youngster DS move most of his stuff out to storage. He’s the only youngster from his current company that is moving to his new one and he knows “absolutely no one in his new company.” That’s a good thing IMHO and he’s now cool with it. He also said the new Dant is going to be taking a “Paris Island” approach to PS. No idea how he heard this or what that’s supposed to mean. So great to see all those summer whites in DTA!

and masks no longer required in Bancroft

🤣🤣🤣
Exactly as you called it - old grads, town liberty, visiting their old rooms (occupied), and “it seemed like a good idea at the time.”

Mine called about an hour ago, I could hear the smile from ear to ear--- NO MASKS!!!! He was so happy, and had to read name tags as he wasn't recognizing people he had been saluting for almost a year. I could hear them laughing together. It was the best call so far- honestly.

You’re right .... I was in a really grumbly mood this morning when she told me about it .... Ya, it won’t be all that bad. She brought a duffle-bag full of cloths with her this morning any way.

I didn’t give any thought to how the space is used over the summer. Moving out makes sense.
