Countdown to SERVICE ASSIGNMENT

One year when PE was a college requirement a few basketball players signed up for beginning basketball. Coach found out and switched assignments and told us "YOU WILL REGRET YOUR DECISSION" . We all dropped the course.
I remember a few years ago B-ball players at a prominent basketball program were getting credit for a basketball course in which the test questions were: 1) What is the length of the basketball court? 2) How many goals are on the basketball court?, and similar questions.

Many of the players missed the one about the length of the court.

OH I changed courses and took Fencing with Miss {pick your State) Touche.

Also escorted Miss Junior Miss from my State on Stage in ROTC Uniform in Mobile. God the things you remember. We were soldiers once and so young.
Speaking of Miss Teen/Junior Miss, etc. I grew up on the same side of town and went to school with Lavelda Fann who married Robert Conrad when he was a judge at the Miss Teen USA pageant.

DD said the firsties are doing close to nothing as Service Assignment Day approaches. Hard to focus on schoolwork and billets and sports teams and other obligations. The conversation revolves around “What was your first pick?” and “What about your second pick?”

So while moms and dads are on pins and needles, I can only imagine what ‘22 is feeling. But I can’t help but think: Wow, that went by fast. Really fast!

Hopefully instructors are expecting close to nothing 😂….

Instructors know. They feel the energy. The wait is hard, but the best part is the wait is with all your buddies. You even get closer with your classmates through this all. It makes all that work worth it. There will be heart ache, which is so hard to see. I watched my best friend get his #2. Many many years later… he had one of the coolest careers of all of us in our class.

That scene is supposedly one of the most viewed and most downloaded videos on YouTube. Wonder why….

I still marvel at how well the filmmakers made Maverick play volleyball “above his height.” Funny how the good Mr. Cruise (all 5-foot-7 of him, in lifts, on a good day) sails well above the net to slam a resounding spike straight into the sand! 😲
If only TOP GUN were a halftime marching band show…🤔

Oh WAIT! It IS!! Compete with that volleyball scene…

Tomorrow, after lunch!

Traditionally, they assemble in their wardrooms on deck and it looks something like this:

My at the low end of the totem pole 3/C has heard no sub draft chat to date amongst the firsties in his circle.
My 2/C said there is definitely a sub draft - the target sweet spot were mids with a 2.9-3.3 gpa (or whatever they call it). Of course, this may be ephemeral truth.
