So does what they have now, become what’s used for Ship Selection? No new OOM generated after 6-weeks, but the selection committees can see the grades and some at least claim to take them into account. I have a feeling it only makes a difference if someone has a big drop-off indicating they’ve checked out, which would be seen as a lack of maturity.
Different situation as that comes after entire semester is complete. I'm not sure if the new OOM is actually done that quickly but it could certainly be done and used. One key thing to note is that ship selection is mostly done JUST by OOM so there is not a whole lot of prework by the warfare community to "rack and stack" the candidates while service assignment is a very involved process that requires lots of meetings and consideration of the candidates with lots of different variables considered. The 4 week grades that are really progress reports for which no Order of Merit is computed are not really usable for a number of reasons including when in the process they are available. On the other hand, for ship selection, the Order of Merit could literally be recomputed the day of the event and the results walked into the event minutes before the start and they could still use them.So does what they have now, become what’s used for Ship Selection?
Nice to hear from you! I love that your DD is thriving and reaping the benefits of all of her hard work.I hope they all get their first choice! Especially the ones who've been chasing a particular service selection goal for 3+ years in what has to be the toughest educational meritocracy on the planet.
Its been a rough week, trying to keep businesses afloat in the 2nd year of COVID here on the "COVID NUTS-SO" West Coast. Then there's the legal pissing match with a big NY law firm over contract language and, well, ....... let's just say that DW is maintaining a "safe social distance" from my office door today.
I drop by this site read a little about your great kids; think about their potential and how much that they have already proven. I remember my own DD's angst over service selection and her own USNA journey. Makes me feel better enough to want to tell you all about it. I smile when I think about Mids, congrats to them and the parents that raised-em. Well, back to work............ #@$-D@&3 lawyers.
That all makes sense. I just wondered what reality is for actual ship selection night. I guess even if OOM is already determined at this point (6weeks) for ship selection, it could change when the time comes around anyhow.Different situation as that comes after entire semester is complete. In my experience, any "senioritis" that might creep in tends to be final semester and that seemed to be pretty minor. That said, I remember my PE classes during the latter part of 2nd semester of First Class Year which were AFTER required Physical tests were done seemed to consist of "electives" like volleyball or tennis for which enthusiasm & effort were rather "muted"Wondered from a ‘senioritis’ standpoint, more than anything. Maybe that doesn’t happen at USNA
I CANNOT believe it’s almost upon ‘22’s. HOW did that happen so fastIn my experience, any "senioritis" that might creep in tends to be final semester and that seemed to be pretty minor. Late in the semester, we in volleyball got so sloppy that the women's volleyball coach who was running the class sat us down to yell at us which included telling us that our level of volleyball play was not up to "Fleet standards"I took kayaking second semester 1/C year. I had taken my PRT at that point and had gotten an A and our PE Instructor stated that we could take a C and not show up for the rest of the semester. I chose the C once service assignment occurred (for us, it was in 3rd week of Jan). I also took basketball which was my coach. I usually grabbed an assistant coach and got in a ton of extra shots during that period. The leisure sports you get to take after drowning, being hip tossed, and punched in the face are a nice reprieve.
I know the Firsties are anxious. Good luck to them all.
