Delay before training

Our DS worked FT with a national retailer. He only had @3 months off before he went ADAF casual.

That's a good point I haven't entirely thought through yet but it has crossed my mind that I need to. DS is NOT on my policy. It was cheaper to get him insurance through the college.

Our son graduated NROTC in 2012 and we were in the same position. In the the briefings about the possibility of IRR the midn were told that they would get Tricare if they had no other insurance (ie were on the school policy and not already on their family's insurance). We had him confirm the details with his detachment to be sure and they reassured him he would be covered. In the end he didn't get IRR so it wasn't an issue.

Not sure if that was specific to NROTC or if things have changed since last year.

Thanks hokiesfan. That some good info. I'll have DS start looking into that. I'm sure there will be yet another presentation on it this year.

So, just out of curiosity, for those of you who are new grads or parents of same, what did your sons and daughters do with the "break"? Get a temp job, start on grad school, climb Mt. Everest?

As it turned out, our older son had only 13 days before he had to report, so basically he spent most of the time packing and sleeping in.

What? Surely he spent some time putting a major dent in your food budget!?!?!?
