Disappointment in President’s unprofessionalism

LOL it does seem like it costs a lot more now.

ALDIS has it for like half price and it’s very good.
Surely you don’t know if they knew how to spell his name. Or, you figure they knew because they were really smart Academy boys. And, I think you’re busting on me, a lowly enlisted man who dares post here.

On the contrary, I was making the point that for those who serve, the president is the Commander in Chief. Period. And I know they could spell the name of their commander in chief because it is important to them. THAT is my point. Respect is respect.

Was your spelling error a random mistake? If so, so be it.....I make way more than my share of mistakes.

I was influenced, at least momentarily, by the fellow who posted the comment that we ought not be political here. Of course, he had already been political in a previous post. But still, I get that this platform is not for highly politicized content. However, I do not think that it is fair to expect folks to not respond sometimes, in a negative way, to an extremely provocative divisive president. This is what he does and he thrives in this environment. That is not an attack, it is simply an observation. Remember the "election have consequences?" What else does that mean? We won, you lost and we will throw it in your face at every chance, rather than being grateful to have won the honor of leading this great nation in unity.

YES YES we can and should try to do better. But this comes from the top. When someone is concerned with a campaign hat at a nonpartisan event, it is a fair complaint, whether the person is your guy or not. But we are not at that place. We are in a different place. And it is indeed very sad and unfortunate.

LOL I wouldn’t read intent in his poor spelling. He is a great poster here.

I have had a few HORRIBLE misspellings in my life. I have banned spell check from my phone because it just makes things worse.

If you’re waiting for him to not be unprofessional you are going to be waiting a long time. He’s different and he’s too old to Change at this point. People need to stop being ‘shocked’ at his outlandish or crazy actions lol

Third, it’s setting a real low bar for saying we should all just be grateful he took the time to come to the game and interact with us. Seriously? He’s the President of the United States, the Commander-in-Chief. The trophy is named after his position. We shouldn’t be thankful he did the bare minimum.
If attending the game is a minimum, then there were plenty of Presidents who were unsatisfactory. I've been to MANY Army/Navy games and most did not have the President in attendance.

Yesterday was a great day. The game ... President Kennedy video ... and Father Foley’s prayer was fantastic. My son loves Father Foley - has been taking classes with him to be confirmed this Easter.

Capped off by some gentleman giving my son and his friends a gift card for $120 when they went to get wings last night at Chicken Ruth’s ... he said he loves midshipmen. They think it was the owner.

Yesterday won’t be defined by a hat or a misconstrued hand gesture for me. And certainly not for my son and his friends.

I believe only 10 presidents have ever attended the Army - Navy game. The last one wasn’t one of them. Our current President has attended 3 years straight.
I thought we weren’t supposed to denigrate elected officials on this forum? If that prohibition has been lifted, please let me know.

President Obama went in 2011 - IIRC.

I once got a talkin-to for saying that former VP Biden was a gaff machine or something like that. It’s not like I pointed out his low IQ or whatever. I’ll go with the rules of engagement. No problem.

I decided to wait until the game was over to post this. But did anyone notice that POTUS was wearing a “Keep America Great” hat to the Army Navy game? I don’t care if you personally support/will vote for him or not. He should not have worn his own self-promotional gear to this type of event. This is no place to push your political campaign. This type of conduct is completely unprofessional and honestly, I was embarrassed to see that. Very very disappointed.

What do you all think?

Go Navy, Beat Army
So triggered that you had to create an account to ***** about a red hat? Wow. Thanks for your opinion.
OP here. A few things. First of all many of you have been saying this is not the appropriate forum to discuss politics, but this is the off topic section and you did wander over here on your own, so. Sure, I could post this on a political forum, but I don’t think I would have gotten as deep of a discussion about it anywhere else, seeing as this is a forum with many USNA/USMA connected people. This is also far from the first politics-related post on this forum.

Second, for those insinuating I don’t like POTUS? Well, I voted for him in 2016. And I enlisted, then applied to Navy, with pride knowing I would be serving under his administration. I don’t feel that pride anymore. This isn’t even close to the worst example of inappropriate, indecent, unprofessional conduct from him.

Third, it’s setting a real low bar for saying we should all just be grateful he took the time to come to the game and interact with us. Seriously? He’s the President of the United States, the Commander-in-Chief. The trophy is named after his position. We shouldn’t be thankful he did the bare minimum. I expect more and better from someone with his power and influence.

As someone who was in the stands, I’ll also tell you, I was not alone in my disappointment. Barely anyone around me was genuinely clapping for him. That should speak for itself.

If no one around you was cheering on POTUS you must have been sitting with your little group of like minded President haters, because that was a pretty rousing ovation. As if anyone had any doubts about your leaning your statement that “This isn’t even close to the worst example of inappropriate, indecent, unprofessional conduct from him.” tells us everything we need to know. If this were an actual political forum, I would ask you to provide a list of all the ways he has hurt you so personally, but it isn’t.
You think this President is doing the bare minimum by showing up? Only 10 presidents have attended an Army - Navy game. The last attended 1/2 a game in 8 years. Perhaps your anger is misplaced.

As a family we moved from the UK to the US for a number of reasons; not least of which was that any sort of show of patriotism in the UK is usually met with accusations of being racist. We love the patriotism in the US, the playing of the Stars & Stripes at sporting events, school children reciting the pledge of allegiance in school etc. All this is a good thing!
We watched the game yesterday for the spectacle it is. I was happy to see the POTUS once again in attendance.
My only disappointment is those people who strive to find offense in everything they see, be it a hat or a symbol. The president could have wore a bloody tutu if he wanted to, the thing to remember is not only did he attend the game but he spent time talking to midshipmen and cadets. As for the white power symbol just because a white power group has used that symbol it doesn’t mean the use of symbol is automatically always related to White Power. In the UK a far right group used to use the Flag of St. George (the national flag of England) and for a time it was associated with racism. Thankfully people have moved past that and it once again is now usually viewed as ‘Just’ our national flag.

Neither George Washington nor Abraham Lincoln ever attended an Army-Navy Game. They had bigger issues to tend to, I’m sure. Yet few will dispute that they were our two greatest presidents. So there’s that!

(Now had they done so, I believe both would have eschewed a ball cap for their preferred tri-corner hat and stove-pipe hat, respectively. Styles were just different back then.)
