Hello, I am a senior in high school, and my district congressional nominee has lost the primary and for the duration of their term, are deciding not to nominate any candidates for the academies. Of course this is not the absolute end of the world since I still have Vice presidential and Senatorial nominations, but still slims my chances. This leads me to many questions:
  1. Is this allowed?
  2. What are my other options for district Nomination? (Thinking about open slots in other states?)
  3. Can their successor get me a Nomination after they are elected? (Problem is it wouldn't be until 2025, very near to the deadline)
  4. Can the successor even give out nominations for class of 2029s next year?
If anyone has any answers to any of my questions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Their successor hasn’t established a plan to move forward? I would reach out to the new MOC contact for sure.

The below info is based on what you have reported…we all may not have ground truth or more to the story.

It might be worthwhile bringing this up to your BGO’s attention for awareness and it’s possible they might have more insight. Depending on what the ground truth is, they could always further the issue to USNA admissions. Admissions will SOMETIMES reach out to the MOC to make sure they understand the process, but WILL NOT tell the MOC how to do their business.

1. Is this allowed? Yes, MOCs don’t have to nominate, but USNA, generally, does not encourage this.

2. What are my other options for district Nomination? (Thinking about open slots in other states?). You can only apply for MOC district nomination to which you (your parents) domicile/live. You can’t apply to any other outside district.

3. Can their successor get me a Nomination after they are elected? (Problem is it wouldn't be until 2025, very near to the deadline). Yes, once they take office…as long as nominations are submitted by January 31. The stance has been with any new MOC that they can add to the slate/submission, if there are open slots. Therefore, if none have been submitted, they would have open slots.

4. Can the successor even give out nominations for class of 2029s next year? The nominations for this upcoming cycle are for Class of 2029.

It might be worth while to think about reaching out to the permanent local political leadership of the party that your incumbent Rep is from (e.g. - County Republican Chairman) to make them aware of this and the negative impact that it has on applicants from the district. Maybe they can talk some sense to the existing Rep.

Nomination reviews/panels/selections are usually administered by staffers, not the MoC. They are a figurehead when it comes to that. I'd reach out directly to the nomination contact (if there is one). For House of Rep. MoCs, they know they are on a 2-year position, and have to run get re-elected every cycle.

Personally, I think that is an incredibly selfish and f--ked up thing to do. Just one more reason I am not a huge fan of politicians. :mad2:

Have you been PERSONALLY told this from the MOC or their staff? If not, contact them.
I've seen cases right here on SAF where incorrect info of this type was given that affected a LOT of candidates.

FWIW, the New MOC takes office effective early in January and the Nomination Deadline is 31 Jan. While it might
be tough for the new MOC to get it all done in time, there is nothing stopping them from starting with interviews and
evaluations once the election is complete in early November.

IMHO, A motivated candidate will PERSONALLY discuss this with the current staff and if necessary, the new MOC's team right
after the election.
