So I got my invite the other day. I haven't called and said yes I'm going for sure yet because my grandparents and I are currently trying to figure out airfare. My question is, how exactly does transportation from BWI to the Naval Academy work?

Awesome!

My BGO told me Friday that I have an invite on the way. I'm really hoping it's for next semester and not Fall. I'm just way too busy this semester to be able to take the time off.

From what I've read you pretty much have to organize your own transportation to the academy.

I received Fall CVW; It says to contact admissions counselor found on CIS. The only contact I see is the Regional Director, is this the same as admissions counselor?

That's what worked for me. I reserved my CVW spot by contacting my regional director.

I received my invite a week ago; I thought it was just a regular invite to visit the academy.. is it that big of a deal?
Any idea if its something other than that? I'm debating whether or not to attend.

From my understanding, they only extend CVW offers to "highly qualified candidates", so I'd say it's a good thing. I would recommend going even if you went to NASS but especially if you didn't since you get to experience what a typical day as a midshipman is like. However, it won't hurt you if you don't.

There are many highly qualified that do not get invites and many invitees that never get appointments, and LOA's that are on the fence for accepting that they invite so they can get another look at USNA. Do not read to much into an invitation.

A lot of CVW invitees do not attend for a host of reasons, not the least of which is EXPENSE. A CVW invitee who lives in Seattle may not attend simply because it is cost prohibitive.

Both my sons got CVW invites after they received an LOA and both turned down the CVW offer.

Kind of going back to my original question....I talked it over with my grandpa and he will be flying out to Annapolis with me. That said I have two questions. One, I'm pretty sure I've read on here about events for parents during that time. Did I read correctly? What kind of things do they have? Second, does USNA have a TOQ? My grandpa is a retired Marine and is eligible to stay at TOQ's. Thank you! :thumb:

Navy Lodge is across the Severn River at the Naval Station. He would be eligible.

If you want a facility closer to the yard - within walking distance, there are some small b&b's, Calvert House is one off of Maryland on State Circle, walking distance to gate 3. Loews is expensive but has good shuttle transportation.

When we went, there was a question and answer session with Admission's and Mids. We also had a very good tour.

If you have a fall CVW invite, especially one that includes a home football game, book now. The Navy Lodge regularly fills up, as USNA midshipmen are also eligible to book family in there.

There are plenty of hotel/where to stay threads on here that surface around major events, recommend searching for the various recommendations.

Gibson's Lodgings, a B&B with its own off-street parking, is on Prince George St., adjacent to the Gate 1 walk gate behind Halsey Field House. Very convenient.

Many people have posted success with Hotwire and similar auction sites.

Good luck!

Thank you guys for the info. My grandpa is just looking for the cheapest place possible. Now we planned on leaving California on Wednesday and me staying with him wherever Wednesday night. Would it be possible for me to stay with him there or not?

DS got his invitation last week. He won't be going. We can't justify the cost to fly him 2000 miles and back again for a two-day look-see. He already has a good sense of what the academy experience will be like (his older brother filled him in). Still, it's nice to know that although no LOA has come, the USNA is proactively reaching out to him in other ways.

Quick question, is it required that parents attend with their candidates?

Absolutely not required for parents. Enjoyable, informative, yes. Required, No.

Looking for cheapest accomodations: Go hotwire.

DS (a senior) received an invite to CVW for Oct and November. We were told yesterday that both sessions are full. :frown:

Shelby,

Call or email admissions and ask to get into one of the winter CVW sessions. My Plebe attended in Feb of her senior year. They were very accomodating.

I'm getting the impression too that this year they're inviting more people than they did last year for the same number of CVW slots. My son called today to request a plebe he knows as his escort for the weekend. When he first started asking about the CVW, they immediately told him that a lot of candidates had received letters regarding the fall weekends who wouldn't be able to attend due to a shortage of slots. When he told them he was already confirmed for the October weekend (he called & emailed within a few minutes of getting his letter in the mail last Wednesday), they were much more willing to talk to him!

My husband will be going with him and we opted to get him a hotel in Baltimore and deal with the drive for much cheaper hotel prices! They'll stay for the football game on Saturday and booked them at an airport hotel for a 7am flight out on Sunday.

Who did he e-mail? I got the letter Friday evening and e-mailed my RD Monday because there was no number. Haven't gotten a response so I guess I'm SOL for the Fall dates...
