DS is a 3 year AD AROTC Scholarship winner and found out he was accepted to his first choice Fordham University. My question is regarding tuition, the award letter says he will receive full tuition but when I was looking at the Fordham page on Army.mil website it says the following:
  • Full Tuition Scholarships, as much as $35,000 PER YEAR, are offered at high cost schools such as Columbia University, New York University, and Fordham University.
The tuition at Fordham is north of $52,000, will DS receive the full tuition amount or just the $35,000? I’m confused?

Army ROTC tuition scholarships normally are for FULL TUITION. That means the entire $52,000 toward tuition and mandatory fees should be covered. Have your DS contact the ROO at Fordham to confirm this and inquire about possible discounted room and board opportunities as well.

Keep in mind that your DS must pass both DoDMERB, and the APFT (2-2-2), in order for the first disbursement to occur.

Here is a link to the cadre including the ROO at Fordham.

Wow, that means Fordham must be running @70K per yr including R & B.
Back to the regularly scheduled program.

Thank you for the reply and info. DS will reach out to the ROO. I hope you are right! Thankfully Fordham will pick up his room charges once the scholarship kicks in. $74,000 this year, gosh I hope we get some financial aid, I was lucky with the older DS going to WP

I supppose it's possible the web page that OP found id quite old. It definitely requires a phone call to the unit.

Yes, a few of the school specific pages of the AROTC "school finder" have not been maintained or contain obsolete info.

BEST source: the ROO at your college.

52K!! And that’s not including bribes, sorry couldn’t resist. And we wonder why student loan debt is a big problem.

Just a word of advice from a parent that stressed about this in the past. Make sure your son is really sure about this path and makes sure he is ready to stay on the path. If by some chance he leaves or is disenrolled for any reason the amount the cadet has to pay back is based on the rack rate tuition, they don’t discount the payback. That total adds up fast. The other thing to remember is that the obligation is not fulfilled until they complete their military obligation.

+1 Jcleppe
I would add that not only does the cadet have to pay back, but they will also charge interest too like any student loan.
He gets his 1st yr as no harm no foul regarding payback if he leaves, but after that all bets are off and he will need to continue this path if he doesn't want to financially pay it back.
~ IE if he decides at the end of his sophomore yr., he wants out or he is disenrolled, it is 2 yrs of tuition, it will include that freshmen yr too.

There are many kids that enter thinking they will stay on the path, but the reason they give that 1st yr trial period is due to the fact that many do leave. Every yr on this site there is a poster in their freshmen yr that will come on and say....I love my school, but have decided the military is not for me. They will go onto say, my problem is I can't afford to stay without the scholarship. Thus, for them it comes down to do they stay the path in ROTC so they can stay at the school, or transfer to a new school because even with student loans they can't afford the school.

Not trying to be a naysayer, just putting it out there that currently at 70K a yr., and add on 5% increase every yr., that can be a fiscal hardship for many families.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. This amount of tuition would be too much for me to gamble with. Personally I think all decisions should be made with the thought in the back of their head “Can I afford to pay this back if I have to? Can I afford to pay this going forward if I have to?” Because it can, and does, happen.
