Gift idea for appointee

well, you WILL be getting a little more money here. military got a small raise..

base pay increased from 894 to 929

Yeah money is good, but that's really not what I want. In fact, I'll probably invest most of it while I'm at the USAFA.

I have a printer, watch, and digital camera already, so all I really need is an external monitor and a snowboard. And a wallet, but those are like $20.

But MONEY can be exchanged for those things

Packer you do know we were just having fun, however, I have been known to send goodie packages to the new cadets...so if you pm me your address don't be surprised to find a Pet Smart card (just enough to make you laugh)...maybe you can buy a Beta fish with it...NO CATS OR BEARS! STill waiting to find out how room inspections with a kennel and kitty litter box passed! Seriously I want to know...did they throw the cat out the window for inspections(cats do land on all 4s)...hide next door...bathroom...where was this cat during inspections? I keep giggling inside thinking about cadets scurrying around throwing the cat like a hot potato...or according to VP Quayle potatoe:confused:

Hmmm... Sounds like a neat idea for a spirit video :yllol:

Which one ...SPELLING BEE by the cadets...or hiding an animal!

CADETS practice spelling and not tossing cats out the window:eek:

It's good we can get mags - my Car and Driver subscription will definitely be transferring with me, then.

Probably hid it in a trunk. I know one guy whose hamster was discovered during a SAMI when it got on its (squeaky) wheel.

"C4C X, why is your trunk squeaking?"

Another cadet I know had a pet scorpion, in his room.

A scorpion...OMG! I don't know why I am shocked when Bullet was in ROTC living in an apt he had 2 pirahnnas(SP?) One was eventually named 1 eye JACK and then no eyejack and then NO JACK!

AGAIN how many demerits do you get for pets?

I could tolerate a cat, but a scorpion? I could just picture my "future roommate" waking me up and saying "Stinger got out of his cage and I can't find him."

I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet but something I always wanted is a really nice electric shaver

As a cadet (cadet candidate to be exact), I wanted to make my life easier in the morning and not have to deal with razor burn. The one I like cost about $180 but it's really nice and it looks something that can last me for a long time.

Our DD would be freaking...she got bit by a copperhead snake...I am sure she would call the ball on any roommate that wanted a scorpion...however she would be willing to hide a cat! DS who is going AF would be the first and say cool, but my DAD (Lt Col(ret)) will kill me if I get in trouble for allowing you to break the rules. I think that is where I have an issue. I also have an issue for them putting another cadet in an awkward situation...support the roomie and not make waves with the cadre by keeping quiet, or speak up and risk the camraderie. Nobody should be put in that position. If no pets are allowed and somebody sneaks it in, they knowingly are breaking the rules. They are also putting the brethren in jeopardy. The military is filled with silly rules, shading the color of gray as a cadet is disappointing. Truth be known it is comical, but I find it sad that cadets are willing to intentionally break the rule. I guess it has something to do with that whole honor code and follow orders thing! Done being the parent!

Electric razors are great, however, I suggest that you realize the shave isn't as close as a regular razor. For the beginning of Bullets career we were constantly trying to find a great electric razor...never found one. This is a man that always loses March Mustache Month...even when he was in his late 30's the kids would tell him he had dirt or rootbeer on his lip. SO if you have a coarse beard make sure before you go to BCT that it is giving a close enough shave. If by 5 p.m. you can hear the bristle, an electric my not be a good option. I don't know about the 200 razor, but that is expensive if it doesn't give a clean enough look for approval.

My opinion now toss it, especially since I am a woman!

Do they allow electric razors in basic? Or do they provide the razors for you to shave every morning?

Unauthorized pets would get someone in quite a lot of trouble...

I agree that having a pet would place the roommate in a bad situation (condone or be "that guy," neither is pleasant!)
In the case I cited, the roommates agreed to get the scorpion, so the dillema was only the rule breaking issue...

Breaking the rules is an issue in cadet culture. Too many people view it as a game. While I agree that many of the rules here are rather dumb, getting in the habit of casual rule breaking is NOT a healthy thing.

yes you can have an electric razor in basic. you can't charge it during the day, only at night...

here's my experience. electric razors worked great for me back home, where it was humid and not dry. got here, though, and my electric razor gave me the worst burns of my life. i never use it anymore... bought some blades for my manual razor in basic and still use them. but then again, that's just what happened to me

car ?

Are they allowed to drive after the BCT ? or are they allowed to own a vehicle in the academy / Just curious, not that i plan to get him a car, lol.
Thanks

i believe that they are allowed to drive as 4th and 3rd degs, but they cannot have one at the academy until they are a 2nd deg, meaning their third year. So, if you got them a car it wouldnt really be used until three years from now. If they need to get somewhere, they have to borrow a car from an upperclassmen, ride a bus, etc...
