Great forum

So...there are pluses and minuses to being connected via Service Academy Forum...You learn a lot of helpful information, which is a great value, right? However, while other people's children are receiving LOAs and/or appointments, you just watch the numbers go up and hear nothing--and I think it is natural to conclude that it simply is not going to happen for your kid. Waves seem to come and go--and the wanna-be-Falcon at your house hears nothing.

Thank goodness that most of the DS/DD on this forum are too busy being successful high school scholar-athlete-leaders to have time to check this platform.

If you were not on the forum or for civilian colleges (like Harvard)--you would not know who was in or how the acceptance process was progressing--you would just know that you would hear on or before 15 April. So, actually, no news is simply no news. Please, do not give up the ship!

No doubt about any of what you said Drmom. I can't imagine the feeling of elation, relief, and accomplishment that those who have been offered appointment must feel. I honestly and truly am happy for each and every one of them because I know how hard they have worked to earn their appointment. I also know Im not alone at this point as far as not knowing is concerned and the very real possibility of my DS not receiving appointment. That's one of the pluses of this forum. People out there feel my pain and I feel theirs. At the end of the day all we can do is hope tomorrow is the day. And if it doesn't happen this year, there's always next year. Best of luck.

Hang in there. Best wishes to all!

A classmate of DD in HS and now at USAFA didn't get her appointment until early May. Don't give up.
Until that portal changes and it's official it's not over, right? Ugh...May???? Our kids graduate the 3rd week of May. That would be so nerve racking still not knowing....

Well I think she was actually told no earlier and had moved on but then they had a late opening.

Question about districts and allocations, specifically situation where the nominating MOC is no longer in office. And to further muddy the waters, the nominating MOC was VA4, but now we're in VA7 after district lines were changed last year after the nomination given.
The portal shows he's in 4, but house.gov shows 7 with different MOC now.
Have seen only 1 appointment from 7, none from 4.

DS has no change in the portal status. Just wondering if this is clutter, or if he should call and chat with counselor?

thanks and best wishes for all still waiting for news!

Hang in there! DS didn't receive his notification until April 1. There is still time!

Yogi,

My guess is that his slate was VA4 since the re-districting was done after the noms.

Honestly, I would not concern myself about this at all. USAFA knows how he will be charged for his appointment.

As hard as it is for you currently awaiting apptmts, VA is known to be very competitive and it is not uncommon for 8 candidates to be picked up off the slate. Years ago we would show how this is possible, but I have not seen it recently, so here goes.

Cadet 1: Sen A, and VA4 nom, Pres. and VP. --- charged to Pres
Cadet 2: Sen B and VA 4 nom, + VP ----charged to Sen B
Cadet 3: Sen A, VA4 + VP ---charged to Sen A.
Cadet 4: VA4 + VP --- Charged to VA 4
Cadet 5: VA4, VP and ROTC nom ---charged to ROTC
Cadet 6: VA 4, and VP, but has an LOA --- charged to the Supe.

That leaves 4 on the slate. There are @500+ that will come off the NWL. There are 535 appointments through the MOCs, 100 for Pres., and handfuls via ROTC, Supe, VP. They typically have offered around 1300 appointments annually.
~ Now because VA is known to be academically competitive and the PAR is the largest % for the WCS you can understand how it is not uncommon to have a couple more being picked up off the NWL.

Yes, there will be TWE's and many will say they will reapply next year, but go off and do AFROTC for next year. The thing as a wife of a now retired O5 is to save your sanity regarding the military life you need to believe in fate and have faith.
~ Our DS actually opted to go AFROTC scholarship over USAFA. It was a very long and blunt conversation that we had with him, but in the end he came to realize that USAFA was not a good fit for him. He was caught up in the wrong ideas...prestige of being a Zoomie, chances of getting a pilot slot and of course that FREE education.
~~ FFWD to life after commissioning. He and Fencer's DS were in the same UPT class. Both are C130J pilots at the same base (different squadrons). IOWS he obtained his ADAF goal as an AFROTC grad.

Hence believe in fate and have faith. If this is their destiny to commission out of USAFA it will happen, maybe this year, maybe next year, maybe 3 years from now.

If anyone is curious, DS had no regrets taking his AFROTC scholarship. He was a military brat and for the 1st time after 18 yrs he also got the opportunity to be DS, with 1 foot still in while being a typical college kid. He had the opportunity to intern on the Hill with his college. He was able to embrace both lifestyles at the same time.

Thanks Pima,
Appreciate the words of wisdom and experience. DS is hopeful for appointment, but realistic. I fall somewhere on the far side.

He has 2 solid plan B's, both top Astro-Engineering schools (his passion) and opportunity for AFROTC. He's on his way to a weekend long Robotics competition, he may not even check portal till Sunday night. :)
