Has anyone received results from the January Board

Thanks. Any process involved with potential upgrades? Would working with ROO at his school of choice (where he got the scholarship to) make a difference? I.E. can they advocate?

I think @AROTC-dad ‘s DS has a similar experience. He was a 3 year advanced designee. His DS showed up at school squared away and the school upped him to a 3.5 year scholarship.

@AROTC-dad may chime in with his future armor officer DS experience.

Can a 3 YR AD winner in the 2nd round stay in the pool for a 4 YR scholarship in the 3rd round? If not, do the school programs every award that 4th year for a freshman? Or by accepting the 3 yr are we set with 3 years of scholarship and one year (freshman) out-of-pocket?

You are done...you have a 3 year offer. At the end of the process some 3 ADs get upgraded to 4 year scholarships, but you don’t recompete.
It would be in your best interest to start working with the schools to come up with a plan to pay for the first year. Keep in mind at most colleges you aren’t paying the sticker price, and having your final three years fully paid for will help convince the school to kick in a little extra to keep you around (in most cases). I would tell you that Clarkson is very generous to our 3 year winners. Not the free first year Montana is going to remind us about soon, but still a bargain for a year at a quality school.

Yes. That’s correct. Pick one or the other.

Get into Northwestern, have the Army pay for tuition and you pick up the tab for room and board.

Get into University of Arkansas (as an in-state student), have the Army pay room and board (I think capped at $5000/semester) and you pick up the tab for tuition.

Some schools will give you some room and board money though if you attend with an AROTC scholarship.

Both of my son’s top schools allow for the use of merit aid for his room/board. This is for both NROTC and AROTC for all 4 years. I am verifying with the University of Alabama if they still offer the cash out option to live off campus. Lots of decisions to be made for lots of hard working young adults.

Remember that you are allowed to accept the offers from all three programs if you haven't made up your mind which to take. At some point you will need decline the offers you don't want but you can hold them for a while until you decide.

Not correct (sorry Jcleppe) you will only have about 30 days to accept one of your offers and decline the rest. If you are waiting on acceptances and you take an offer to a school you eventually don’t get accepted to then the transfer request process comes into play.

Do the AFROTC, AROTC, and NROTC programs coordinate now? I think the reference Jcleppe made was for someone who had a scholarship from all three programs. Of course my own preference is that folks have already sorted out their #1 program and immediately accept that one. It doesn't seem all that hard to me, but them I'm not a kid starting out in life.

You're correct regarding the program in general. I think Clarkson cuts cadets a great deal on room and board, meaning I think they get that thrown in, but I won't swear to that. I know they at least get some reduction, if my memory of past posts is correct.

I probably wasn't clear in my post, what I was saying is that they can accept a scholarship offer from different ROTC programs such as AROTC, NROTC, AFROTC.

A resume would be a good idea. It says it somewhere in the instructions that you could/should include but I don’t think it’s explicitly required. I added one and received a 4 year on the 2nd board.

Letters of recommendation are always good. Maybe 3 or 4 from a respectable professional (a JROTC instructor for example). Also, documentation detailing how much community service you have done in total for your major programs is a plus.

I too was confused at first about this part of the scholarship since most would not choose room and board over full tuition. However, most schools will either give you discounts (mostly for public) or make it completely free (mostly for private). For example, I chose a private school that offered to pay for my room & board because my state school and another public institution only gave a small discount. This is just based off my observation.

I would definitely not say most, but there are a fair number out there that provide additional room and board benefits on top of a scholarship.

The only thing you change at this point it the PT test and SAT/ACT- the board already looked at your file.
