I planned on becoming a doctor but there is no major for something like that. Which major should I choose IF I go into the Academy?

Honestly I don't think any of the degrees offered would benefit u if u plan to go into medicine. I might advise that u choose one with a lot of science courses

It doesn't matter which KP major you pick as you will have plenty of STEM but no bio. Pick up some biology courses while fulfilling your obligation and enter med school once your obligation is completed. Finishing a residency at 33-35 years old is not unheard of these days. Also, you will be able to save a lot of money to help pay for what is an absurdly high cost of medical education. I don't know that if you went active duty and a med school would accept you without bio (or somehow get courses online during the four years) if that service would permit you to go.

They have a pretty serious paramedic certification program.
Can you elaborate more on this certification program? Also, I know midshipmen receive firefighter training however do they also receive a certification?

It is not paramedic. It is EMT. You decide during INDOC if you want to participate. It is a very time consuming process, but upon completion by the end of your Plebe year, you are certified as an EMT by the state of New York. The EMT's rotate duty hours so there is always someone available. EMT duty cuts down on the number of watches you gave to stand. You will also be voluntold the work as an EMT during another INDOC period.

A little bit of a correction: you apply to the EMT program at the beginning of 2nd Tri. It is quite competitive to get in and grades are one of the determining factors. 3.0 GPA after the 1st Tri is pretty much a requirement to get into the program. As @kpmom2013 says, it is very time consuming and you need to be able to maintain your academics above all. It is very rewarding and you get out of it what you put into it. My 2021 has spent thousands of hours at Vigilant firehouse (when they were able to leave the grounds of course) and has gained an amazing skill set and loves the EMT program. He has some incredible stories.

Definitely worthwhile to apply to if you're interested in medicine. BUT, remember, this is a BOAT school! You can definitely segue into a medical career afterwards, but you have to be open to the KP curriculum and stated purpose.

The general pre-med requirements are
  1. One year of Biology with lab.
  2. One year of General Chemistry with lab.
  3. One year of Organic Chemistry with lab.
  4. One year of Physics with lab.
  5. One year of English.
  6. One semester of Math (calc or stats)

I would pick a "major" that has the most of those classes.

You don't have to major in PreMed but you do have to meet the med school's requirements when applying. I majored in Psych with a minor in English, then later decided to become a physician so I took a year and a half to get in all of the missing sciences. Then later became a Flight Surgeon for the USAF. Nice gig, btw.
