I am a candidate for the US Naval Academy. I have a 3.9 GPA, lettered in football and soccer, and got a 1310 on my SAT and 27 composite ACT. I have been Class President, Interact President, House President (my school has a house system like, similar to Harry Potter) and have participated in multiple community and statewide missions trips and charity events. I have been rejected for one of my Senatorial nominations because of "high number of candidates" and have not heard from the other senator or my local congressman. I have completely finished my application and am awaiting results on nominations. I am extremely nervous about the other two nominations and am worried that I will be rejected from the other two nominations. please help!! any advice would be most beneficial. A side note- I am wondering if I get rejected from the Academy if the Prep School would even be an option.

Your stats look generally good. As has been noted many times before here, keep taking the standardized tests (my own thought - pick one or the other as your best shot, and keep working hard on it.) Your leadership stats look good, and finishing the application early helps . GPA is certainly very good, but hard to put in context here in the way that the admissions office will, knowing schools the way they do; it does apparently say that you did almost as well as was possible where you were. That's where the prep schools come in - do you have the potential, but in a place where you didn't have the opportunity to prepare? And remember that reapplying after a rejection tells them that you really want it. Good luck!

Thank you so much! I am surely going to reapply if I do not make it in this year.

Not exactly sure what you are expecting us to tell you. You are already in the application process and as a senior in h.s., there isn't an opportunity to improve your resume. You either will or will not get a NOM and nothing we are going to say will change that. I would also work on your Plan B since far more apply to USNA then there are available spots. That is the reality of applying to a highly competitive school.

Waiting is the hard part. My DD got a "rejection" letter from one senator without an interview. And she hasn't heard from the other one yet. However our congressman did notify her via email they would be setting up interviews next week during the break. BGO told her most nominations come from the congressman in most cases. Prep may be an option but it's hard to say. However a nomination doesn't guarantee an appointment either. Just be patient and I know that is the hard part. Hang in there.

Thank you! I already have my backups planned, I've been accepted to University of Alabama and am awaiting an acceptance letter to NC State. I am planning to reapply if I get rejected from the Academy. Thank you for the advice.

DD has several plans for a back up and State is one of them also. Hopefully you will hear something soon.

If you have not maxed your CFA, you might want to consider emailing your admissions rep to request a retake (even if you already passed). Just as a warning though, if you do worse on your CFA, that will become the CFA attached to your profile. You should be sure you can do a lot better than the last time. As for the advice aspect, there are so many factors that no one here can fully see. Enjoy your senior year, retake standardized tests, and have a stellar back up plan; enjoying the wait is the best thing you can do now. Good luck!

Thank you so much! I did very well on the CFA. I did not max, but I was close.

In our case our congressman interview came first, DS got a nomination, our state does not double nominate so we never heard from either senator, at all.
